Netelligent switches support all media types, including 10Base-T, 100Base-TX, 100Base-FX and FDDI. Selected Netelligent switches also include an optional Ethernet alternate media expansion port for UTP, BNC, AUI and 10Base-FL connectors. For added flexibility and reliability, Compaq's switches offer a second hot swappable, dual-redundant load sharing power supply.

The Netelligent 5708 Switch's non-blocking cross-bar architecture provides an aggregate of 1.6Gb/s of throughput. In addition, auto-adaptive features allow the 5708 switch to change from 'store and forward' to 'cut through' mode automatically-this helps ensure peak performance at all times. The Netelligent 5708TX switch automatically adapts to either 10 or 100Mb/s on each port. The 5708FX switch is ideal for installations that require long cable runs (up to 2Km) or electrically noisy environments. Each port automatically negotiates to full or half duplex and store-and-forward, fragment-free, adaptive, and cut-through frame forwarding modes depending on network performance. Both Netelligent 5708 switches provide SNMP, VT-100, Telnet, and VLAN as standard management features. Firmware is upgraded easily via TFTP, and IP addresses can be established through standard BootP services.
