Netgear is known for making good quality and reliable devices for networking and internet for home and business.
The main purpose of this router is to direct data to multiple machines at the same time to increase connection performance and reliability. There is no software to install for setup, all you need is mains power and you are away. To connect multiple users all that is needed is extra ethernet cables to be plugged in and the device automatically initiates the auto sensing feature which was handy.
The switch is not the most advanced switched on the market but when it comes to its core process it does it brilliantly. There is no way to monitor traffic passing through which was a downfall.
The design of the device is what also captured me and it is very small and light so it can be easily be moved to any location of your liking.
Overall it will expand your network at home or in the office greatly and provides users with security and peace of mind.
I have been using this switch now for about a year for my home setup. This switch is ideal if you have limited ports available or network connections as you can simply plug one network connection into it and it will "switch" this to 7 others. Meaning that from one wall connection you can run up to 7 pieces of equipment.
Although this is a 8 port switch you will require one port for your main network connection and therefore this is not a useable port.
The switch itsself is nice and small and therefore will not take up a great amount of space. It can run speeds up to 100Mbps and as low as 10Mbps. There are the usual network lights that show up and flash to show you having connectivity which helps with troubleshooting in the event of any problems as you can see weather the switch is recieving a connection.
The switch runs silently unlike other i have experiences in the past and can be picked up for around the £30 mark meaning that this is a great piece of kit for the price.
If you are struggling for network connections and want some to simply create more ports this kit is ideal and wont break the bank. I have had this running 24 hours a day for over a year and have not had any problems at all.
All too often in these days of heavy internet useage are things related to networking bumped-up in price due to their 'distributed-team' and 'data-flow facilitating' properties. so it's nice for a changed to see a good quality switch come in at a low price (Sub £150). Sure it's got a low feature-set but to be honest all you want in a good low-cost switch is the ability to segment your network at speeds up to 100MB and let it go at that. Extra features are nice but not necessary. You'll find no active monitoring here, just plaing old good quality, reliable switching. If you're looking toe xtend your network a little and want that added bit of secuirty I'd recommend this unit hands down. Oh, it's also a pretty damned good hub to boot.
