	Netgear GS105 ... is the smallest (in terms of port numbers) Gigabit switch that Netgear make. The first thing that you notice about it when you open the box is that it has an extremely high build quality and has a good weight to it. This sort of thing is always reassuring. The metal box not only means it is stronger but will also help to get rid of the heat faster. This switch does run quite hot, but never overheats so I m not so worried about danger rather that it might be using a fair bit of electricity! It has 5 ports so for most people that means you will be able to have a Gigabit network between 4 computers since you will need to use one of the ports for uplinking to your route... 	Netgear ProSafe GS108T 8-Port Gigabit Smart Switch ... have two of these 8-port gigabit switch that I use in my research. I use it to connect 4 old AMD athlon servers that I use for ridiculously long simulations. The other I use to connect two powerful servers to the university LAN so I can access data from it. All computers are running in a Linux platform. I am pretty disappointed with this product. I have two of these Netgear GS 108 Prosafe 8 Port Gigabit Switch. It was on sale at Newegg.com and I got both of them around 60 USD. Although it is cheap be cautious in buying this product because the capacitor in it is of inferior quality. 	Netgear ProSafe FS728TP 24 Port 10/100 Smart Switch with 4 Gigabit Ports and 24 Ports PoE ... FS728TP is a fantastic value for money switch. With PoE on al ports it s ideal for powering devices such as VoIP phones, webcams etc so that you can do away with the clutter of their individual power adaptors. Although it works straight out of the box, there are many features for the more advanced user such as power limiting per port, Vlans, DHCP, QoS, etc making this probably the best value for money switch in it s class.
