It can be used as a segment switch to provide a bandwidth boost for Fast Ethernet networks and to connect to an Ethernet legacy LAN. And, with its 1.6 Gbps of internal bandwidth, the TigerSwitch 100 is even powerful enough to serve as a high-speed, departmental collapsed backbone, or backbone-in-a-box, supporting Ethernet switches and servers. What's more, multiple TigerSwitch 100 can be connected to form a 200 Mbps backbone for large Fast Ethernet networks.

The TigerSwitch 100 employs a non-blocking design to allow simultaneous wire-speed transport of multiple packets. In addition, it operates in adaptive cut-through mode. This dynamic for-warding architecture alternates automatically between cut-through, fragment free and store-and-forward modes, to provide the best possible performance. This switch includes a comprehensive array of "at-a-glance" LEDs for easy monitoring. And, it can be managed in-band via SNMP or Telnet and out-of-band via its console port. There's also support for Spanning Tree so secondary data paths can be configured to ensure continuous network access, and redundant power support for critical applications.
