Yes I know it's winter. And yes, I know it's cold. But if you think that's gonna stop me eating ice cream then you can think again!
A guilty pleasure, my favourite brands are Chok-A-Block and Ben And Jerrys but the problem with branded ice cream is that, when you eat them as often as me, after a while you can get a bit bored of the same old flavours.
The alternative...well, how about making your own!?!
With this neat little ice cream maker, available in a very stylish red colour as well as the standard kitchen white, making your own ice cream has never been easier! And don't worry about being a top chef either because the handy recipe book that comes with this gives you lots of step-by-step recipes that are easy to follow with wonderful results. Depending on what ingredients you put in and the quantity you are making, it doesn't take long either ~ somewhere around 30-40 mins is the average time that most of the recipes take!
And it's not just ice cream you can make! Ever fancied frozen yoghurt but don't like all the fattening ingredients in the shop-bought variety? Make your own! Want some refeshing sorbet for that extra special dinner party you might be having over xmas? Again, make your own! This machine provides a yield of 1.5 quarts which works out as enough for around 8 or 9 people!
This machine is simplicity itself to use and almost completely faultless and idiot-proof! It needs no ice or pre-cooled containers as an in-built freezing mechanism is self-contained and if your mix is too thick and chunky or the mixing blade becomes stuck, then the whole thing cuts out preventing any chance of accidental damage either to the machine or more importantly to yourself! This is only the second ice cream machine I have had in my kitchen at home ( the last one "died" about 6 months ago) but I have used other more commercial machines over the years and this is certainly amongst the easiest to use that I have ever come across! It is also fairly easy to keep clean and quite compact so it doesn't take up a lot of room in your kitchen.
At a little over £250 in price, depending where you shop, this machine isn't exactly cheap but if you, like me, enjoy having a lot of trendy, useful gadgets in your kitchen then this is a top quality item to possess. I use mine a lot on my days off and quickly found plenty of other recipes on the internet over and beyond the few I got with this product. The good thing about this machine is that it gives you lots of room to experiment and try your out own ideas and though it might take a few attempts, the end results end up being well worth the effort and certainly as good as anything you can buy in the shop....except possibly a lot healthier as YOU control exactly what you put in!
I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who enjoys ice cream and fancies themself as the next Heston Blumenthal. It is a top quality product and I have had no complaints in the short time that I have been using it!
