==Osram Eco classic 28 W Light Bulb==
We have recently just bought two new ceiling light fittings for the lounge diner to replace the low lamp shades that we had temporarily put up when we moved into this new property and I couldn't believe how expensive the light bulbs were let alone the light fittings that we chose.
I needed to have 6 bulbs for the two fittings and the bulbs needed to be the small screw in variety. Of course I wanted something to give off a good deal of light but I am all for energy saving and cutting back on electricity bills so therefore I wanted something that was going to be a little bit eco friendly.
The bulbs that Argos suggested I buy from them were these Osram Eco Classics which fit the light fittings I bought from them. They are slightly smaller and more rounded than your regular bulb and for that reason are described as golf ball type. However Argos sell them singularly for £2.99 pence just for one! Of course needing six this means that on top of the expense of buying the not cheap light fittings I would have to buy the bulbs as these were not supplied with the lights.
I was a little miffed to spend £18 on light bulbs and did have a little look elsewhere online where I was able to find the exact same bulbs on a site where they were charging a whole £1 less per bulb! So of course I chose to order from this site instead and actually got the bulbs delivered before the lights were!
These Osram Bulbs are actually made by Phillips and are actually a halogen bulb but feature a medium energy saving unlike a regular bulb. They have clear glass and the element inside the bulb itself is rather large and a rectangle shape and not like any bulb I have needed to buy before.
They have a 28 watt output and a 230 volt what ever that actually means I am not sure. However I can say that they are indeed very bright for the front room and unlike regular energy saving bulbs the light comes on quick and fast and doesn't take time to "heat" up and thus get brighter with time. They specify a 2000 hour life expectancy which again is better than a regular bulb and about standard for an energy saving bulb.
The cardboard box that each bulb came in did state that these bulbs are suitable for use with dimmer switches which I don't think is something that regular energy saving bulbs normally offer. However we have a regular on/off switch rather than a dimmer so this is not something I can comment on at all. It also states that the bulbs contain no mercury and can be thrown away in the normal household waste.
Overall I have been using these lights for a good couple of months and I am really pleased witht hem. They were cheaper than I thought they would be and they will hopefully last a very long while. I like the fact that they are clear as they can't really be seen once they have been screwed in easily to the light fitting itself. The fact that they can be switched on and 100% of the light comes through straight away is a real bonus and needed for the front room in the darker early evenings.
I think I will award a top score of 5 out of stars and iw ould highly recommend them for people who need to use this sort of bulb. Of course I would say shop around as the price can vary a fair bit from retailer to retailer.
I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you
Many thanks for taking the time to read.
