Advantages: good range of options
Disadvantages: price
This is an impressive piece of computer software in which you can edit your photos, adding brightness/darkness, sharpening/blurring them, and adding colour to make it look like a fine photograph, even if it was a messed up one to start with.
Also, this programme is useful for creating your own pieces of artwork from a picture - you can make it look like a painting by doing it in watercolour, chalk and charcoal and graphics pen; you can even change the background texture - adding endless realism, changing it to canvas, patchwork, or even staind glass.
In just browsing different options in the 'Filter' menu, you can make you picture look very effective and striking.
You can add impressive effects such as glass, ripple and diffuse glow, or even just use the smudge stick to change a small section of your picture, using the zoom tool for extra accuracy.
Though I have not yet mastered this programme, I know it can be very useful and is reccomended by website designers for doing pictures for sites, and also just for making sure each photo in your photo album (particually if you have a digital camera) is as good as it could be, or better depending on how far you go with the effects.
If you don't have a digital camera, meaning your photos are not saved as files on your PC, you can just use a scanner to get them on there then load the scanned image into the Photoshop programme.
There are newer versions of the Photoshop software (number 8 is the latest I think, and is a bit pricy at £500), but I am satisfied with this programme, which can be bought for a bit cheaper than the newest one in different computer shops.
I would reccomend this programme to people with a not so good digital camera, as I know how irritating it can be when you get back from holiday and all the pictures look really bad quality when opened on the computer. Also, I would reccomend this to people wanting to get into the computer image editing world, as it is a good programme to start with - it has a wide range of options and can produce great results.
Thanks for reading my review.
