Advantages: very cheap

Disadvantages: can be slow

I am a ceramics student and we are encouraged to use Photoshop as a tool for furthering ideas. I was unable to afford the full price for Photoshop and didn't know anyone to do a dodgy pirate of it, and by chance I came upon Photoshop Elements.

This is a fraction of the price of Photoshop proper, and basically includes around 80% of what you'd get in proper Photoshop. I have used Photoshop 6 and the only thing I've noticed that's not on Elements is the duotone function. Elements includes lots of the new things that are in Photoshop 6, like the fab Liquify tool, you can also create panoramic images by stitching several photos together.

It's great for digital camera users too. A bargain at £50.
