If you want to own a decent photo-editing package, it's possible to end up paying a lot of money. Take the industry's software of choice 'Photoshop' for example, which costs over £700 - quite a price to pay to get your holiday snaps looking good! Anyway, that's where Photoshop 'Elements' comes into the equation - at only £50, you can't really go wrong.

Elements is the little-brother of the full, multi-faceted, main Photoshop programme, and works as a slimmed down version with less features to play with. It's also more user friendly, and should appeal to a broader audience than its more expensive sibling.

Elements 7 is more similar to the main Photoshop (now in its 'CS4' edition) than you may imagine. Many of the main editing tools are the same, and Elements 7 doesn't feel like a programme which is £650 cheaper than the full version.

In terms of its features, there is the usual (boring but essential) bits and pieces like brightness / contrast / hue / saturation - but there is also a whole lot more. A new fun element which has been introduced into this version, is the 'Smart Brush' option, which allows the user to add a selection of Hollywood style special effects with only one stroke of the brush

Adobe have once again succeeded with the latest version of Photoshop Elements - the programme is easy to use, and has more than enough features to suit the amateur photo-editor. For the price, I would highly recommend this product.
