Advantages: unlimited variables, easy to fix mistakes, creates or alters images
Disadvantages: expensive, no inbuilt tutorial
Photoshop 7 for those who are serious about their graphics whether it be retouching pictures, adding effects or creating your own graphics from scratch, is almost the be all and end all of graphic design packages. About the only thing I found it can't actually do, is create genuine 3 dimensional graphics but it can imitate 3 dimensional graphics to such a fine degree, the end result is often better than a 3D image generation package anyway. There is so much this program can do, to review it here in enough detail to do it justice would take half a day to read. (That's why those books are so big.) You could easily spend 4 or 5 years using the program and still not come to the end of everything it can do. For this reason, if you're seriously considering splashing out and getting this package, have a look at Photoshop tutorial websites, including the people who make it - Adobe.com and see not only the myriad examples of what it can do but the extraordinary RANGE of functions. You can search your favourite search engine for "photoshop tutorials" and get page after page of return and many websites provide even more functions and effects as plugins giving this product virtually unlimited potential as a design tool. www.phong.com/tuturials is one website I would have liked to review just for the step-by-step instructions provided on the site to create amazing effects both from scratch and from sample images. As I said, for creating virtually any graphic either from scratch or from an existing image, truly, there is nothing Photoshop can't do. Photoshop 7 can even handle animations for you. 12 months worth of tinkering with it and I'm still a novice as far as using the enormous range of features in this software package is concerned, but I'm practically an expert at removing blemishes from photographs, recolouring, reshaping, resizing or otherwise manipulating phot
ographic images - and now I'm getting started creating my own artwork from a blank background. In ten minutes, I created an image of the earth half in sunlight with the sun off in the distance and a night sky full of stars. I'm about to get started creating words which look like they're made from melting plastic and chocolate.

- 23/01/04 I'm a graphic designer so I use this all the time. You're right...it's completely indispensible. I couldn't do my job without it! After 6 years of using the programme, I still don't know everything that it's capable of either. There's so much you can do!! |
