WinAVI Video Converter is a very handy and useful piece of software which should provide a decent solution to all your video editing needs. It can be quite annoying downloading large avi files and movies to find out that without converting them to DVD format it can take some users up to eight hours to get the movie on to a DVD disc.
However, using WinAVI on a computer system with a half-decent amount of resources (I would say a 2GHz CPU with 1GB of RAM/memory) will convert any movie to DVD format sufficiently and fairly quickly, for me averaging at just over half and hour per movie, depending on quality.
There is a demo trial version of the software available, but it does have limitations and a purchase of the full product is necessary to be able to benefit from the full functions of the programs. WinAVI also has the ability to batch convert several films one after the other in one go, though obviously this will take a lot longer.
One good thing about this piece of software, is that you can set it to block up any pop-up messages. This is quite handy seeing as though when the CPU resources are being fully utilized, a pop-up message from another program can cause an error on the DVD and the movie could freeze up while you are watching it. You can also set WinAVI to automatically shut down your computer when it has finished converting, so you can usefully leave it running through the night without worrying about your electric running out and causing an error on your hard drive!
WinAVI also supports nearly all video formats, including AVI, MPEG1/2/4, VCD, SVCD, Divx, Xvid, ASF, WMV, RM, QuickTime, SWF and much more. This program should provide a solution to all your video needs.
