Cafe World - Facebook Application
Advantages: addictive and fun
Disadvantages: the gremlins and niggles
Essentially we have another facebook time based sim like game that plays in real live time regardless of whether or not you are online or not which has its benefits and drawbacks, for example in this case you are a chef and each dish takes a certain amount of time to cook from 3 minutes to 2 days. The disadvantage being you could jump back and forth from the page and the 3 minute dish could have gone bad or you may pick a dish that takes a day instead of an hour and have to wait an entire day for that cooker to free up and again miss the time when it is ready. Either way you end up losing the main currency for this game (cafe coins) which can be a little and a lot depending on the dish you are cooking.
Therefore the game has an overall addictive quality which keeps leading you back for more game play every day. You can also expand your walls to make a bigger venue for your customers to a certain extent and can now accessorise the outside as well as inside of your cafe.
As previously stated the game runs on cafe coins mainly which can be earned by successfully cooking and serving a dish to a customer. You can also purchase these using a visa/PayPal account on a connecting site to the main window which runs the game, but really I find this a bit of a scam and unnecessary and is only for lazy people who have a lot of money to shred.
The game also runs on cafe cash which is much harder to come by, you usually earn this when you complete an ongoing task and you can buy special rare items with these which decorate your dining area and restaurant. Again you can purchase this currency but it is a rip off and only for people too lazy to be bothered playing through the game.
In this game very much like other games of this nature you get your own little character to customise, you can decide their gender, what they wear, skin colour, hair colour and much much more, however what you buy for your character varies greatly in price depending on what it is you want from being free to 1000 etc. You also have any friends you have added to the game popping in and out and you can see their individual outfits also. You can also hire different friends to act as your waiters and see them run around your cafe in their little vibrant customised outfits which is pretty cute.
Initially you start off with 3/4 basic recipes that take from 5 minutes to 4 hours to cook which is done via clicking the mage then the stove they are being cooked on multiple times. These are pretty inexpensive to begin with but the more you cook the more you level up and the more you level up the more recipes appear and the more expensive they generally are. The recipes vary tremendously from regular every day foods like burgers and buns to snails and cosmic pizza, currently the last recipe you can unlock is the snails at level 72. A new feature has appeared were when a particular recipe is levelled up individually then you get a different coloured plate, currently you can only reach level 3 which is the gold plate but with around 80+ recipes and with this feature only being added recently you could be at it for a while.
The game is generally point and click like most other sims and you can zoom out and in to a certain extent by clicking little icons in the bottom of the screen and you can also click to mute the sound without muting your entire computer. Overall the game play is simple and most people can play it but it can be aggravating and often freezes if you are running too many programmes or too many people are using the same wireless system, this can result in you having to repeat certain cooking tasks that can set your timing off.
Visually it is very attractive, cute and imaginative and there can't really be much to complain about apart from then loading time for the game sometimes.
You can now purchase or receive herbs that speed up cooking time, save spoiled dishes, or increase output amount of dishes which can be used in emergencies but can only be purchased by using cafe cash, another way in which they try to scam you out of money.
You can give your friends your spare servings when you cook meals in bulk.
If you want to get rid of a serving without wasting it now you have the option of selling it as wholesale goods to a computer character called dale.
There is a general forum that you can use if you have any problems or just want to add more neighbours to gain extra friend perks from the adds.
Niggles that annoy me
Far too many pop ups that try to get you to spend money or bookmark the game, even if you say no they still keep appearing every time you log on, no is never enough for them. They don't seem to get that no means no!
Summary: pretty playable
