Advantages: Too many to list - this is a great buy
Disadvantages: None
I passed my driving test a few months ago, and I have to say, I dont think it would have happened first time had it not been for this DVD.
Basicaly the DVD is interactive, and can be used by several learners as each user gets his/her own icon and password to create a personal profile.
The DVD is cut into 3 main sections:
The Hazard Perception Test - this is possibly the hardest section of the test to prepare for, and this video holds an impressive bank of example sceanarios that you may see during the test. The rules of it are the same as in the actual test, click on a developing hazard and you are awarded between 1-5 points depending on how quick your reactions have been. It stores the tests and example you have taken and suggests when you are ready for your actual exam. It also gives you the opportunity to sit a full mock test if you have the time, giving you a score similar to what you would have got in the real situation, or it allows you to take one example at a time - letting you practice and build confidence. One thing I did notice about this section is that the examples they give are much more difficult than in the real test, I was just about passing the examples using the DVD which scared me into doing lots and lots for practice, however in the actual exam, the clips I was given were no where near as hard which meant I breezed it.
The Theory Test - I initally bought the book but then switched to the DVD as I found it much easier to track my progress. Basically the whole Highway code is on the Dvd and you are supposed to learn that before attempting the questions, I however, found it more helpful to go throught the question bank and learn as I went. It works in a similar way to the Hazard Perception in that you can choose to concentrate on a particular element of the theory test (such as road signs, motorway rules etc) or you can take a full mock test. If you take the full test, you are given a score out of 50 just like in the actual exam and your scores of previous test are plotted in a graph to let you see how you are progressing - once you have passed 3 mock tests, the DVDS suggests that you are ready to do the real thing! What I particularly liked about this, is that the DVD tells you what sections of the theory test your are not so hot with - mine was road signs, and suggested I concentrated on this section of the DVD and to do a bank of mock questions just in this area which I did.... very clever really.
The Practical Test - As you can imagine, this is a hard area to revise for without being behind the actual wheel of a car - but the DVD hosts a range of videos of actual driving lessons focusing on all the major aspects of the driving test, ie all the manouveres, roundabouts, turning right and left are just a few - I actually found them really useful - there is also a mock driving test on there which you can watch and record the potential minors and major faults the pupil has made - and this prepares you for what will actually happen on the test day.
The DVD itself is very easy to navigate - very user friendly, and I am not a technologically advanced person at all.
I would consider this product a MUST for anyone learning to drive!
