Advantages: A neat, small, compact little machine that seems to be very reliable
Disadvantages: Slow and inefficient
The Canon BJC-2000, came with my computer. This meant it was not my preference to purchase it, but then I do not know many people who actually bought a printer that did not come with it (excluding companies and people who like to scan). Anyway, this printer is particularly small, which means it is easy to slide around the desktop and place in handy spaces. As the printer is loaded from the top, and slides neatly out the bottom, this means that it can be very compact as long as you have room in front of it to let the paper flow out. One other thing I like about this printer is its ease of use. It has never broken down on me, miss printed or ever sent up an error message, which means that I never have to waste time fixing it. This was a problem with my old olivetti printer. However, this printer is far from perfect. One objection I must make is its quality. At 360 x 360, it is quite low, this is fine for black and white priting and low quality photos, but for people with scanners who want to recreate a picture this printer will not print at a high DPI. This does not effect me particularly as I use it mainly for black and white type, but this is a warning! The speed of the the printing is also particularly slow, in black and white I recorded a record speed of 5 pages in one minute and an average of just under 4. In colour it is exceptionally slow, one high detailed photo quality image (or as close as this printer can get) took me over 4 minutes! At lower DPI it has an average of around 1.5, fairly slow I feel. Also, the way the ink is fitted is rather inefficient. There is only one ink container (unlike the HP) this means that you can either print in black and white with a full cartridge which is fine, or you have to use a "splitter cartridge" and have half a colour container and half a black. This means that the ink runs out extremely quickly, for example I ran out after 5 days of heavy printing. W
ith the price of ink so high (around £7 for black and £15 for colour), this means that this printer can cost alot to upkeep. I have recently seen this printer in the shop for £60, and I feel that this is a resonable price for this printer. It is certainly not a high quality printer, nor is it a cheap and efficient one. However it really is simply an average, for the average man who really only uses their printer for text and the ocasional photo.
