Advantages: Great quality, easy to use.
Disadvantages: None
I was lucky enough to recieve this printer from a lovely person on my local Freegle group. It is still available to buy new but has mostly been replaced by the later model, the IP4600. The only real difference being that the newer model comes with USB connection only, whereas this one can be connected with the older Pin Type cable (which I use).
Price
This is fairly reasonable (around £80) for a photo printer and the quality means it is definitely worth every penny.
Appearance
This is a stylish sleek looking printer that would look smart in any home office or study.
Installation
This is not Plug and Play but it is easy to install with Quick Install function on the disk and it is easy to download drivers online if you happen to not have a disk for it. You can chose to have the extra applications, but I generally don't install these unless I want them as they take up space on my small hard drive.
Functions
The Canon Pixma Bubble Jet iP4000 is a photo printer so of course it prints photos as well as just plain text documents and it does both incredibly well. The speed is not bad for a printer of it's size and spec and it can even print on both sides of the page (if you set it up right).
It does not scan and copy, but I have had all in one printers before and found I never used the functions and just had a not-so-good printer.
Print Quality
When photos are printed on proper good quality photo paper it is hard to tell the difference between the and ones done in a lab. The quality and resolution really is fabulous.
Text documents are printed quickly and cleanly with crisp lettering and sharp colours.
Ink
The printer takes 5 seperate ink cartridges, 3 colour and 2 black. There is one large black cartridge for text documents and a smaller one used for photos which means that you can buy cheap ink for text and decent Canon ink for your photos.
The inks are not as expensive to buy as those for really cheap printers and seem to last a fairly long time.
I got this to replace an Epson that I was not getting along with and I have to say that the Canon has out-performed it in every way. I could not be happier with this printer, it is so easy to use as well as being great quality. Definintely the best printer I've ever owned!
Summary: An excellent photo printer that won't cost the earth.
