Advantages: Easy to setup, good quality prints
Disadvantages: Duplex facility a bit slow
Having used a Canon IP3000 for over a couple of years without fault, I had no worries about purchasing another Canon Printer.
For the initial cost involved the IP4500 is an excellent quality printer. Out of the box it is very simple to setup and install. I find the software very easy to use and I particularly like the easy web print which makes it quick and simple to print web pages at a reduced size to fit the paper.
Build quality is excellent and I like the option of 2 separate paper holders. I mainly use A4 paper or A6 photo paper so I can leave both sets in the printer, and just select where the printer should take the paper. Much handier than removing paper and reloading paper every time you need to print a photo.
Print quality is very high and in my opinion of higher quality than most other printers in this price range. Even using third party inks the quality is very good. The individual ink tanks means there is no wastage. However if you wish to use third party inks you need to swap a chip over every time. It is very simple to do though and only takes a couple of seconds. Using third party inks means you loose the ink level display so you don't know when you are low in ink unless you open the printer top and check occasionally.
Speed wise I find it more than adequate for the job although the duplex facility is very slow due to waiting for it to dry. Personally I just manually print 2 sides as it is a lot quicker.
An excellent printer and I will be getting another Canon when the time comes to upgrade.
Summary: This is an excellent printer at a reasonable price
