Advantages: cheapish, good print, compatibles available
Disadvantages: may only have short life, noisy, requires cleaning often
I have just scrapped a second c40 in less than a week! Both printers were from computer customers of mine one customer used it constantly until a change of cartridge required cleaning then after 2 cleans up came the message "parts inside your printer need serviceing or replacing" No choice here. A check with epson and invoice said "out of guarantee"....actually 20 days past one year. I complained to epson and they kindly had it swopped...excellent. Two days later I picked up another c40 as the customer said "too noisy", "too slow". I replaced both cartridges as they were too low to be of use and luckily the utility offered the choice of replacing them both. Same as the first printer, cleaning required as the printout was patchy. A clean brought up a message"parts inside your printer need serviceing or replacing". A look at the invoice (from Dixons) told us it was 32 days out of warranty. This time Epsons said no. Their approved repairers want £35 plus £10 x2 plus parts plus vat!!! It's a no brainer, dump it. Summary Two C40 printers lasting just over the year, not a good track record for what we all assume is a reasonably good printer. Consequence I no longer stock Epson or recommend their purchase. I stock Canon instead.

- 09/07/03 I've got this printer and it is really hit and miss - but mine was really cheap so I can't complain too much. Lisa x |
