Advantages: Price, Good Quality Printouts, Easy To Use

Disadvantages: Noisy

Having got me the deal I eventually wanted from PC World I had a slight problem in the fact that the new PC obviously came with Windows XP and I knew my old printer was not compatible with XP. So whilst buying the PC I had to pick a printer. But one thing I did not want to do was spend an absolute fortune on a printer. Fortunately I actually managed to get PC World to throw in the printer as part of the deal but the actual price was just under £50.

One of the first things that stand out about the printer when I unpacked it was its small compact size especially compared to the size of the box that it comes in. The printer fits nicely into the corner of my desk as they paper is fed through the top there is no tray hanging out to take up extra space.

It can print upto 5 pages per minute of colour pages and 11 pages of black and white pages which for inkjet printers is about average for that particular price range. However if you want faster printing then you need to spend that little bit extra. The quality of the print outs on this printer is also relatively good especially if you want to use the extra quality paper for getting those photo quality prints.

There is one major downside to this printer and that is the noise it makes. When you first turn it on and he printer warms up it makes a great deal of noise, and it does exactly the same when printing your documents. It only accepts A4 sheets of paper but if you only intend to use it for general home use then A4 is just fine.

Replacement cartridges for the printer average at around £15 for genuine Epson cartridges which although cheaper alternatives are available from some retailers and mail order places they might not be worth the risk. If you have a genuine problem with the printer and have not been using genuine cartridges don’t bother to waste your time trying to claim under the warranty as it won’t be valid. The printer when purchased does come with one of each of the cartridges.

The way to connect to your PC is with the easy to use USB cable which once connected Windows XP will automatically detect the new hardware and guide you through the set up process with the use of the installation CD Rom that comes with the printer. For those new to printers or PCs you cant go wrong it has two buttons one for the power and the other for paper feed and ink changing, it also only has two ports on the back one for the power cord and one for the USB.

In general this printer is a good quality compact printer perfectly suitable for general home use. With just the one downside the noise it makes!
