... again. The only annoyance about this product though is that it will not print if one of the cartridges is empty. This is what I meant about it being a little wonder, earlier. So while I have a full colour cartridge, until I get a new B&W cartridge the printer is rendered useless. As you can see from the picture at the top of the op (hey, that rhymed) the printer is fairly box-like. To let the paper out when printing, the front flap folds down, and then acts as a stand for the printed sheets. Paper going in is su...more

Premium Review Epson Stylus Color 740: Value and quality (161 words)
by - written on 24/08/00 (Very useful, 169 readings)
Rating:

I purchased my Epson Stylus Colour 740 quite a while ago, and it has served me extremely well for a few reams of paper. You can still find these printers in the shops at a very reasonable price despite their age. The 740 has the capability to print excellent quality photographs at 1440 dpi resolution. This is due to the extremely good colour management sytem which is included. I have had excellent results from my epson for a couple of years now, and wouln't change it. There are of course more advanced printers on the market, but in my opinion none to mach the 740 for value for money. The ink cartridges are not as expensive as say the lexmark or ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review SPRAY me with your FLUID (706 words)

The Epson 740 is one of nature's little wonders. As I write this opinion, it is sitting here on my desk just doing nothing. It is a wonder, because I wonder how it can be so useful and yet so annoying at the same time! Allow me to explain further, with a bit of background history. I bought this printer when I first got my PC, over three years ago. At the time it cost me £179.99 from Argos, but I am sure it will be cheaper now; especially if you look in second hand PC stores. For an inkjet printer, it does everything you would expect of a colour printer. It has a good quality print, ranging from 720 dpi (dots per inch) up to 1440 dpi. You can select ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Epson Stylus Color 740: Noisy but good (107 words)
by - written on 31/07/00 (Very useful, 57 readings)
Rating:

When I bought my system just over a year ago, with digital camera, I decided to upgrade from the standard 440 to the 740. At work I had been regularly using one of the 800s and thought that the print quality was excellent. I was not dissappointed with my purchase. The photos that printed are crystal clear and retain the depth of colour you would expect to see. The black print on letters is also of an acceptable quality and I have been pleasantly asurprised at how long the cartridges last. My only complaint would be the noise and movement suffered when printing. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Quality and Value (280 words)

I bought this printer about a year ago when i got a new system and it cost £200. A year later i see that you can pick this printer up for little over £100. To people who havent yet purchased it, i strongly suggest you do. What you get for your money is near photographic quality printing. By using the correct paper and software this printer is able to print pictures that rival the quality of photos. Black printing isn't too bad either although it isn't as good as the Hewlett Packard range of printers. Don't let this put you off though since the black print quality is still good enough for reports etc. The speed of the printer is the only ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Epson Stylus Color 740: Not so hot... (467 words)

I already had a cheap Canon inkjet that was a few years old but it wasn't much good for photos. After checking a few reviews it seemed the best printer you could buy for a reasonable amount of money was the Epson 740, £150 later I was a proud owner. It installed easily until I tried to connect it via a USB lead. It worked well with a serial one but when I followed the instructions for USB it didn't want to know. Much cursing and a new lead later and it was up and running. First impressions were great. No one buys a photo quality printer and doesn't try printing some photographs as their fast task. The prints came out wonderfully, ...  Read the complete review
