Epson Stylus Color 860

The Epson 860 is an excellent mid-range printer. It can be easily linked up to any computer, with the included software disc. It has excellent print quality, and can be super enhanced with Epson quality photo paper. Although it is a colour ink printer, it prints like a colour laser when used with Epson photo paper. We bought this Epson colour printer a few months ago. I also have a HP 500 series (520, I think) and have been much happier with the quality/cost of the HP printouts. Why are cartridges so expensive? Why does the colour run out even when you use mainly the B&W. Why do the ink refill kits cause problems with the ink indicator facility of the printer? I also prefer the smaller footprint of the HP (as the paper feeds back on itself Maybe, the problems I have had are because I cannot justofy paying the ridiculous prices for Epson consumables.
