I purchased this printer for use at home, for printing off various documents, photos and we even used it to print the wording on invitions for our wedding and it performed fabulously.
I now even have the same printer at work linked directly to my machine so I can quickly print out documents when I'm in a rush.
I was more than impressed with the speed of printing when using the Epson D120, it perfroms much quicker than any inkjet printer I've had previously, or if you want to print a photo in high quality you can bump up the settings for a more professional print.
The printer was easy to set up and I had it working in no time at all. The ink cartridges are easy to install and as with most Epsons are individual. This printer has 1 x cyan, 1 x magenta, 1 x yellow and 2 x black cartridges.
I initially thought that the second black cartridge was optional but the printer won't operate without both black cartridges. This was my only main annoyance as I purchased a replacement set of Epson cartridges in the store as recommended by the shop assistant but these multi-packs only contain 1 black cartridge so when it come to changing the ink, my printer wouldn't work. I now use unofficial epson inks off ebay and these are extremely cheap and I can purchase in bulk so I never get caught short. The unoffical inks are excellent for the money but I have experienced a few problems with them. But thats not Epsons fault as they recommend to use genuine ink and this is still an excellent printer for the money.
This Epson printer looks like a quite poor quality family home printer. I don't mean its design as it actually looks quite cool. However just because its shape looks like all the other rubbish quality printers that came before. This printer however is really good quality, and Epson even boast it makes a sensible alternative to a laser printer in the home or office.
This printer shows you, that you can get the same quality and speed from an inkjet printer as opposed to an laser printer. Also its cheaper than a laser printer, infact a lot cheaper. you could buy on of these for around £50, where as a laser printer could cost anything up to £500 and might not even be as good quality.
What I meant by this printer looks like any other, is that its got a simple body, a paper feeder at the top and a slot at the bottom, where you printed documents come out of. You can probably all imagined what this looks like already, its just your typical printer. The top lifts up, so you can easily install your 5 ink cartridges.
This printer can print off at 25 ppm, that is 25 pages per minute for black text. It can also print off 11 ppm, this is the speed for the colour, so it can print off 11 pages per minute of colour pictures, or colour writing with pictures.
The print quality of this printer is great, it also prints off pictures really nicely and is defiantly worth the purchase if you want to print off good quality pictures in no time at all.
This printer is cheap, looks cool, prints fast and with great quality. So I would advise this to anyone who's currently thinking about buying a new printer and wants something good, but for a little price.
Pro's: Excellent print quality and fast printing, especially on text only setting. Easy cartridge replacement - a vital facility for the reasons given below!
Cons: Extremely thirsty, losing about 5% of the minute ink capacity every time it is switched on, due to head cleaning. The maximum paper weight is nowhere specified, but it will not accept 240g card unlike the C86. Probably includes the maddening in-built pre-determined lifetime after which it just dies. Obviously designed with maximum profit for minimum consumer satisfaction in mind!
Not a printer to be recommended unless one is willing to meet the high running cost. It is very surprising that Epson produced this printer which, despite its high rating for quality of print, is inferior to other models and does nothing to enhance the Brand image. The consumer needs high capacity ink cartridges which are not depleted at an extravagant rate, and the ability to handle heavy card up to 240gsm. The C86 model meets such requirements.
