Advantages: easy to use, good quality construction, affordable cartridges, excellent print quality
Disadvantages: Obsolete
For a printer of the windows 98 era, the "stylus photo" range of printers have stood the test of time.
Parallell/serial port connected, this printer is compatable with windows 98-XP inclusive and has a print quality that is superior to many modern printers.
Ink cartridges for the 700/750 are high yield, not too expensive and are still readily available.
Updated drivers are available from the Epson website as is limited free technical support.
When you first switch it on, the 700 will carry out its print head cleaning program which can take a couple of minutes, a bit disconcerting till you get used to it, a final "clunk" and its ready to print.
Print head alignment, and other maintenance is via the interface or by pressing a combination of the buttons on the printer itself. Resetting to default is an easy operation too.
The range of paper size and quality settings are good with a manual adjuster for odd thicknesses. There are just three buttons to worry about and the instructions are very easy to understand.
In photo quality mode, the 1440 dpi 5 colour printhead really comes into its own producing very natural looking images. Print speed is not too slow either. Compared to modern printers, it can be a little noisy but not excessive.
Although this printer is now obsolete, there are still some to be found at a reasonable prices, and in my opinion, worth every penny.
Summary: An excellent printer that is hard to beat.
