Epson's new Photo printer, the Stylus Photo 830 is a very welcome addition to the Epson stable of inkjet printers. I originally went looking for the Epson Stylus Photo 810, which is the model I use at a college night class in digital imaging, only to find that it's been superseded by the 830 at the same price. Both are A4 photo printers, PC and Mac compatible, and afford a choice of parallel or USB connection, but where the 810 offered a printing resolution of up to 2880 dpi, the 830 offers a whopping 5760 optimised dpi. In use, this difference is really noticeable, but not so noticeable as the step up from the Photo 700, which was my previous model. ... Read the complete review

Rating:
First off, some exciting technical details: It prints at a depth of 2880 x 720 dpi in 6 colours (using 2 cartridges - 1 black and 1 5 colour cartridge). The quoted print speeds are up to 12.0ppm black text and 11.7ppm colour Okay, the plus points: 1. The colour photo quality is excellent. If you have a good scanner, or a digital camera with PIM (Print Image Matching - basically ensures that the colours you see is what gets printed) and good quality photo paper, then you won't be able to see much difference between an original image and it's printed copy. 2. I've seen a review in Computer Shopper criticising the quality ... Read the complete review

This is a good photo printer. The print quality for photos is excellent. Text is average ( I use 360 dpi ). It does tend to use quite a lot of ink, especially when printing large photos. I have printed about 25 photos and used half a print cartridge. However, the useful status monitor does allow you to monitor individual ink tanks. I had some problems loading the software with it causing a general protection fault but this was remedied with a call to Epson Support ( yes, they are open on a Saturday ). I purchased online from Comet ( online price of £105 ), but it was lost by Parcel Force. Eventually I managed to get it in a Comet store for the same ... Read the complete review

I bought this printer from the wonderful Dabs.com and it is very good. I recently went on a trip to Alaska where you have to be pants at photography to take a bad picture as the scenery is breathtaking. The shots taken on my Fuji Finepix look just as good when printed out with this printer as I remember they did while taking them. The colours are true, the image sharp and the software that's supplied makes selecting and editing the shots a doddle.Ok so it isn't the quietist or fastest printer in the world but who cares....just go and make a cuppa and come back when your print is ready! As the printer was only just over £100 I wont complain at the stingy ... Read the complete review
