Epson Stylus Photo 870

I'm not the kind of person that gets excited over computer peripherals but I can tell you that this is the best purchase I have made. The printer has been reduced in price from over £200 to about £150-£160 and gives a quality of print that far exceeds some printers that retail at over £300. The quality of photo printing (if you use photo paper) is breath taking. This printer turns out great images on photo paper and reasonable images on normal paper. It has a 5 coulour cartridge and a black cartridge. Though they are cheap, the printer consumes quite a lot at 1440*720dpi, but it's worth it. There's practically no "pixelisation" and the shades are totally uniform. The straight paper path allows it to print on thicker paper than average printers. The text quality is good even though it's not the fastest printer for this. At long Last! An affordable printer that can turn out superb photo-quality prints. It is quick and quiet, turning out A4 colour photographs in a few seconds. Printing onto plain paper gives good results but when you print onto Epsom photo paper you can't believe your eyes as the image emerges from the printer. Skin tones are excellent and there is no sign of banding when printing large areas of colour. You even get a role of photo paper in the box that allows you to print photo-banners and panoramas. Had this printer for about a year now, and I have mixed feelings about it. On the positive side, this is a relatively well-built (for the price) printer ? comparable to most other leading brands in this respect. The styling is reasonable and the design sensible, though not particularly small. It is possible to fold up the output tray to stand flush with the main body to save space; however you can?t do this with the input paper feed, so you need to allow space for this on your desk. Hype is here and this printer isnt what it is made out to be. Epson have had a lot of embarrassement to deal with when it comes to the so-called photo targetted printers. The 1270 was meant to be the printer that gave us photo quality with long life prints when using their specified medias. This turned out to be a failure as the media wasnt up to the actual lifetime expectancy so the printer failed it`s test. Now we have the 870 which is the new version of the 1270 but in a smaller form.
