Advantages: Excellent Quality

Disadvantages: Can be expensive and slow to run

I bought my EX when they first came out, and even now I can hardly believe the quality. The secret with any digi printing is to use the right paper - Epson's own when you are feeling affluent, or Jessop's when time are hard.

The EX performs very well with either, but then it would, because it has two vital ingredients to make photographic quality printing a reality.

First, it can print to 1440 dpi, and therefore the results will give the illusion of "fine grain", and secondly, it has five rather then the usual three colours.

In practice, this means that pale colours and/or tones don't rely on having the white paper showing between the ink dots, because the printer can use its pale magenta and cyan inks to create very subtle and unsaturated colours such as skin tones or smooth skies.

A common mistake when working with the Epson, is to have the original file size to big. Just because the printer can work at 1440 dpi, people think they need to work at that dpi on screen. For normal, everyday printing of photographic images, set your file at 200 dpi, but for the best quality, then go up to 360 dpi - any higher is wasted.

The best affordable printer I have ever used.
