Advantages: Good print quality, low ink consumption, low ink prices

Disadvantages: Bulky, Ugly, Once out of one ink, even colour the printer will not print at all, even text.

I inherited this printer off my dad after needing something that could print out my basic school assignments and the such. At first glance, in this age with glossy white printers and slim designs the Epson Photo R300 looks quite a behemoth, with its bold black and grey styling and monochrome LCD display.

But at it's heart, even though it's getting outdated, the Epson Photo R300 is a good printer with some minor flaws. When set to maximum quality and on glossy photo paper, the printer can produce some great results with good colour replication and inking. It has a myriad of different options to select from it's screen and can do mostly anything you want to throw at it whether it be pictures or text.

The one big bug with this printer is the ink problems, once you run out of one ink, unless you have it replaced you can't use the printer at all. And this could be a few days from time of ordering ink to delivery. You can't even print out black and white documents even if your only missing say a light magenta ink.

Ink consumption with the printer with a cartridge lasting me roughly a couple of months with average use of about a couple of pages a day and ink is considerabley cheaper than newer printers. I am able to pick up a cartridge for £2.49 if I order online! Which is amazing value.

Although the printer is on the bulky side, considering its age it does its job very well, competing even with newer printers although I will be upgrading soon since I would like a multi-function printer with scanner and copier included.

Summary: It's a good printer for it's age and even rivals some newer ones, minor flaws but overcome.
