Hi Folks,
I have had the same problem "Cartride not recognized." Email to Epson, and the solution was few hours later in my inbox, but did not work. I tried few things to reset the printer, this worked:
1. Disconnect from USB,
2. Disconnect from the main while Printer is ON
3. Wait 10 seconds
4. Connect printer to main, while pressing the power button for 10 seconds.
5. Printer will do a reset, including cartridges.
6. Connect USB and read inkt-levels...
Please try, if this works for you too, spread the message!

I bought this printer to replace an Epson Photo 830 I had had for 7 years hoping for the same reliability and reasonable economy of the 830. I wish I had read some of these reviews earlier as I have experienced exactly the same problems as others. The printer had only printed 4 pages of text before I got an error message saying the black ... Read the complete review

Well where to start? This printer was on offer so i thought i would purchase one in the hope i was getting a bargin. Wrong! It's so slow it's untrue, it's extremely loud and the ink cartridges run out very quickly, which in the end lead this printer not be a bargin, but a costly mistake. I have had Epson printers in the past which have always ... Read the complete review

As with other reviewers, I found this a cheap but noisy machine. When it worked it was adequate but not exceptional. I bought quite a few spare genuine Epson cartridges to save time and money. Then the problems! In the middle of a job, it just stopped working. The error message was effectively 'Failure to recognise ink'! Epson Helpline most ... Read the complete review

It prints good quality text and images, also the carteridges last quite a while. when you need to change the ink, you can just purchase the colours you need, which works out to be cheap. Although i do think it is a bit clonky and bulky in comparison to some other printers, plus it makes such a noise when its printing!!! i have to cover my ears and ... Read the complete review

Print quality superb even photo's on plain paper.
Very easy to use and good software provided.
Printer is a bit noisy, but acceptable.
Reliability - poor which is why I can only give it 1 star, the black ink cartridge is now not recognised (done under 20 prints) and is going back to the shop today.

I've got the same problem - black was not recognised, and after some 20 pages and a new Black cartridge - Cyan failed... A very helpful guy at EPSON Ireland explained how to clean the contacts :) And it did work - it recognised the cartridge but said it was empty (after some 50 B/W text copies)! OK, I cashed in some 14 EUR for the new one, but now I see it was really a faulty printer. Going tomorrow for reimbursement! One star, because a reliable printer is more important than a great but dead one. Going back to Canon...

I purchased this printer as a last minute buy from Tescos, I needed to do some printing urgently so I just bought the cheapest one in there(was not cheap) and gave it a go. When I got it home it took hours to set it all up, install cartridges, install pc programs and other bits and bobs. When it had been all installed I was pleased with ... Read the complete review

Avoid this Printer at ALL costs. I returned the first three S20's because after approx 1 week the printers wouldn't recognise the black cartridge as being compatable. This after printing maybe 3 sheets at the very most each time. I contacted Epson Technical Help and forcefully asked what they were prepared to do - they very reluctantly sent me ... The epson s20 is a fairly run-of-the-mill photo printer. It has neither direct photo-printing capabilities nor networking options, but is a useful a4 inkjet that can also print 6x4in photos. Though not specifically marketed as a photo printer, the epson s20 has a solid driver setup that makes selecting the right combination of paper ... Read the complete review
