I bought my printer on 21 Nov 2009 and sod's law.....it conked out today! Power to the printer, (tested with Avo) no indicating lights on! The worst printer I ever came across. Epson advertises that it has the cheapest ink around, but they only last ten minutes. To make matters worse you can't print in black and white if you're out of any coloured ink, and it constantly claims that genuine ink cartages are not, and this can happen even if your in the middle of a document. Oh it point blank refuses to let you print at all in this case. Awful. Just don't do it.

I understand that some people may have had no trouble with this printer. I have had the same problem, continuously. I am furious. When the printer worked, it was fine. It was very temporemental and stopped recognising compatible ink - even though it had worked for a month. So I bought original ink. It worked for about 2 weeks, stopped recognising the black. I got a new black. It worked, then the colours started giving up. I sent off for a new printer (the Epson people are very helpful - probably because the product is so shocking!!) - and that worked with the new, original ink, for about 2 weeks and has just given up on me again. Same problem - not recognising the ink.I am furious.Just don't risk it, it's a waste of time & money.

Did what everyone else says here. Worked for a bit and then fails to recognise its own cartridges. Rubbish product and I wished I had read the reviews before I purchased it. I used to like Epson printers, but will never buy another.

Usual problem, won't recognise genuine black Epsom cartridge supplied with printer, after print about 8 pages over 4 weeks. Epson may think they will sell many more cartridges by connecting it to the web. But if everyone reads the web they won't buy the printer in the first place. Good idea very poorly implemented. Anyone know a work around?

The same for me ! A few print, a black cartridge to change and the problem occurs... The magenta cartridge is not recognized. What a mess ! I only used genuine epson cartridge.... Second epson printer for me, previous was a stylus 810 and I can't even remember if it ever had printed correctly ! Bye Epson...

I can understand some of the reviewers being upset about cartridges not being recognised, however i must disagree that this printer should be avoided. after a few pages I couldn't get it to print. I decided that the cartridges supplied must have been almost empty. Fitted a replacement but it only lasted about 4 pages. I have also replaced the colour ones because they aren't recognised. I suspect that these cartridges are full but the printer thinks they're empty. Funny how one minute they're 100% and the next, they're 0% or faulty.Epson - get this problem sorted before your reputation goes down the U bend.

Absolutely same problem - saying that cartridges are non-genuine when they are, seems to haapen after a period of time irrespective of use. This printer is a warranty replacement for an S20 that did exactly the same. I will be attempting to gain compensation from Epson for money wasted on their genuine cartridges. Printer too clever for its own good - you dont need a chip on an ink tank.

Same here, decided to upgrade from an old epson c46 to this s21, what a big mistake, do not consider buying this printer at all it drinks ink as though it is going out of fashion had it for 1 month and am now on the 3rd cartridge having only printed on an average basis at home on text quality, it now has stoped working and a message is displayed saying that the black cartridge is not reconised, rather strange when i know it is a genuine epson cartridge, its now being boxed up to be returned. be warned.

Three weeks old and will not recognise original Epson cartridges, as a result it will not print. It is being returned tomorrow! Think twice before you buy one of these, you have been warned!!!

Same here (again). I'm just about to box it up and try for a refund. Had it three weeks.20 copies and ink cart 'empty' (?). No warnings, reduction in quality or indication of depleted cart before cutting out Took a chance and bought in a rush after a Hewlett Packard, as it was cheap, hoping the old problems (noise and short cart life) had been sorted: they haven't!!I'm never buying Epson again...
