Epson Stylus S22
by deannamason1993
My personal experience and opinion:
If you want a printer for small scale printing, when i mean small scale printing i mean like 4 sheets of A4 a week, this printer may be the way forward, i bought this printer and after i printed 12 high quality prints from it, it packed up and only could be fed paper by hand, i sent it off, the ... other worked fine appart from some technical manufacturing problems, they send me a new one and it had the same problem as the 1st one and then the 4th one i got worked like a dream. I hope i just had a spell of bad luck and not all epson stylus s22 are like this. I now happily print of my coursework each week which is (colour, A4, around 15 - 30 pages) and i sometimes print out photos.
The details:
The print speed is about average at 28 black and white pages per minute and 15 colour prints per minute. Prints a 8x6 inch picture in about 90 seconds. It's good for mass production printing if the printed had the facilities.
The printer has a USB port but doesn't provide a USB cable.
The printer can easily hold around 50-70 sheets of paper, but i prefer to just put in enough for the amount you are needing to print due to the fact sheets of paper can easily get clogged in the wheels.
H13.5, W41.5, D22.7cm. in size and 2.4kg in weight, which is very easily moved without difficulty and can be taken on business trips etc.
Other: Inks can be costly meaning around £30 for the full colour and black inks for this product but from the speed i print pages (my usage is above) the ink last me around 2 months. which is cheaper than printing from a shop!
The set up is pretty simple and even my nan who is 82 years old borrowed it for a week and she isnt a computer whizz at all managed to set up and print out her poems from Word.
For a printer which is around £20 - £30 it's a good quality. If you need a cheap and cheerful printer then this is the one for you. Read the complete review |

Epson Stylus C86
by jlaker1992
I bought this printer nearly 4 years ago when starting at a Boarding school. I needed a printer in my room and Didn't want anything too fancy. My parents bought this for me and at the time it was only £30. It was a bargain, it also came with ink and spare cartridges. Im not sure entirely where it was purchased from. The printer has done ... a good job for me over the years, it survived being at university halls and is now safe at home and still works to a very high standard! I love my printer. The C86 is one of the simplest you will see. I will now go into more detail on the product.
The printer:
The printer is relatively small and very easy to set up. you have a loading paper tray at the back which can be adjusted to fit the size of the paper. The front of the printer folds up neatly and is easy to open, you just pull it down and extend so that the paper that has printed can sit nicely. The colour of the printer is black and sliver and some grey. It looks very simple and is a no nonsense printer. The printer is not very heavy and is very easy to move around, its also not very large so It won't take up too much space on an office desk of table. I have unfortunately snapped the part at the back which stands up and holds to paper in place, luckily some industrial strength super glue and Tape have fixed it. Overall the printer looks nice, but not as good looking as the newer printers to have been released. It doesn't matter what your printer looks like if it does the job, and this certainly does. This printer is very easy to set up, I have had no problems installing it onto other computers and laptops. I have also got this hooked up to my airport express so that it works as a wireless printer! It works a treat. There are only three buttons on the printer. These are on the top, One is the on and off switch, the other is to cancel a print and the other one is the ink levels button. There is nothing hard about this printer.
Quality/Ink:
The printer is great because it can produce very high quality images and text. It also does not take very long to print, even on high quality setting it will still outpace many printers I have tried before. I tend to print a lot on draft mode as this uses little ink and prints instantly. I find that i am very rarely having to replace cartridges. You also recieve notifications of how low your ink levels are, so you are always up to date. It is very easy to replace cartridges and doesn't take a very long time at all. Its a very basic printer and I can't see many people struggling to use it. I have submitted a lot of university coursework with this and the images that it prints have been top quality. If you lift the lid, the printer has detailed instructions on how to change the cartridge, these are in graphic format and you simply follow the steps shown. You are also supplied with a manual in the box which will guide you through the basics. The Epson stylus C86 uses Durabrite Ink.
Overall:
This printer has survived a lot of accidents, I cant count the number of times at uni that I spilt drinks on it or completely knocked it off the side. Mine is patched up and still works. I am waiting for the day when it completely breaks and I will go get a new one, this hasnt happened as of yet! I really like epson products and in the future I think I will buy an epson printer. They have a few cheap ones on the market. I have seen this printer online for just under £20, its much cheaper now as its older. I would recommend this to anyone who is off to uni and can't afford to buy an expensive printer, this will do the job and see you trough nicely.
I am going to be giving this a 5 star rating because it has been a great servant. It was a good price and things don't tend to last long, but this has and I praise Epson for there quality. I really hope it can hold out and last for many years to come! Fingers crossed.
Thanks for reading my review on the epson stylus C86. Hope it helped you out :)

Epson Stylus Sx235W All-In-One Printer
by Klima
I've owned a really wide range of printers over the last few years: Epsons, HPs, ink jets, laser jets...but I keep coming back to the Epson ink-jet range for two reasons: the excellent print quality, and the ease of use of the software interface.
I didn't actually purchase this printer: it was given to me by John Lewis in ... exchange for the totally execrable SX215 I had purchased from them. Retail price was around £35 which is a fair price: I certainly would not be prepared to pay any more for it.
I was pleased by how small the printer is: it takes up almost half the space of the previous SX215. It is also very lightweight and has a nice matt finish (I found the shiny SX215 looked too 'plasticy'). Power cable, installatiion CD and ink cartridges were included, but no USB cable - I am using the cable I bought with my first Epson model.
While the SX235W has lived up to my expectations in terms of print quality, I have to admit that in-store I was baffled that a wireless device would come at such a bargain price. It seemed too good to be true. And it was. The wi-fi function does not work. Because my printer is next to my computer I had no interest in using the wireless connection and this was not a selling-point for me, and for that reason it has not impacted my overall assessment of the printer, but if I had bought this expecting wireless connectivity I would have been sorely disappointed. And even though I have no need for the wireless connection, that doesn't mean it hasn't intefered with my printing. When first installing the printer I decided to try out the wireless connection. Two days and a lot of faffing around with configuring the wi-fi router in my home and changing various print and internet settings on my PC, I had it up and running. During this time I contacted Epson support via their website for advice and I have to say that they were utterly useless. There is no continuity of service so you do have to re-explain your problem to several different members of staff. They will try to redirect you to information on their website which of course you've already consulted and doesn't answer your question (else you would not have contacted support!). My memory's a little hazy, but eventually I fixed the set up issue by setting up a wireless network between my computer and printer using a wizard in windows and making sure that the new printer was set as a shared nework device - but nowhere in the instructions for the printer, on the Epson website, or in conversations with support was this simple fix described. However, that only worked for a couple of days - and then suddenly Epson's scanning software refused to open. Back to support who advised me to re-install the printer, which I did, losing the wireless connection I had taken such pains to set up! The scanning software would work with other user accounts on my computer, just not my own (administrator's) account, which was not something Epson had ever heard of (though a quick google search tells me it is a common problem) and which Microsoft eventually fixed for me. Now I only ever use it via USB - I'm not risking experimenting with the wi-fi again!
The only other problem is that the printer can be very slow to print large full-colour documents. But that's a minor quibble. Overall, I am very happy with the look, performance and cost of this printer, and relieved to be shot of the SX215. Read the complete review |
