Advantages: paper tray that holds lots of paper
Disadvantages: drivers may conflict with os?
The HP 2000C is the best Ink Jet printer that I have used for a while. Not only is the printing of quite high quality it is also quite fast compared with other Ink Jet printers that I have used. This printer is also very nicely styled and would not look out of place anywhere, being the normal grey colour. Along with the printer I got a paper tray (which is moulded especially for the printer, so it doesn't look out of place), so you can stack the printer full of paper (like a laser printer) and leave it to print. This is a huge improvement to Ink Jet printers, which can usually only hold a handful of paper. You can leave this printer, fully loaded with paper for ages without changing the paper, hooray! The printer also has four separate ink cartridges and printer heads for each colour. This may seem quite wasteful but I do think it is good (as you can recycle the cartridges now). With normal colour printers when one colour runs out you have to buy a whole new cartridge. Where as here you just have to buy the colour you need. This is great because you are not wasting the rest of the colours when a normal colour in a normal ink cartridge runs out. Also with this printer came a Jet Direct box. This is a useful bit of kit if you are on a network. It makes it really easy to attach the printer to a Novell or Windows NT network without attaching the printer to a computer, which is very useful as you don't have to have a computer dedicated to hosting the printer. To set the printer up on the network you have to have installed on one computer on the network the Jet Direct Administration program. This allows you to set-up and manage the Jet Direct printers on the network. As with most printers like this now the software is very easy to install. All you need to do is have the printer attached to the computer, or on the network, and put the CD into the CD-ROM Drive and the CD will auto-run and start the set-up process. H
P as usual have numerous updates of the drivers for this software on their website, www.hp.com and all of the problems that I have encountered, all software, have been fixed by installing the latest version of the drivers. This is a great printer for Office or home which produces great printing results at a reasonable speed. The only thing that I would say about it is that because you purchase the ink cartridges and the printer heads separately, this can become quite expensive to replace all four cartridges and printer heads. ******** Having just read the other opinion on this printer I feel a bit sorry, but I have had no problems at all with this printer and it has been the best Ink Jet that I have ever used. :-) ********

- 15/03/01 Sounds great but £350 is a bit too rich for my blood. |
