Advantages: Good quality printing, small in size, not too much sound polution
Disadvantages: Does not include USB cord
I have had this printer for a good few years now and I know that I can always rely on it. It has never let me down even when other printers in the house have had a hissy fit, jammed up and stopped working. This on is compact and certainly meets all my printing needs.
Box Contents
===========
The box contains the following items:
The printer
Set-up posters (x2)
A reference guide
The printer software CD
One black ink cartridge
One tri-colour print cartridge
The power supply
The Printer Itself
==============
The printer is light grey with a dark grey top (as shown in the picture at the top of the page) I think this is a nice design and it looks smart on my desk. The printer has two buttons on the front, one to switch it on and one to cancel printing. The printer has a fold-up 100-sheet paper tray and is capable of printing in black and in colour and can also be used with a photo cartridge to print high quality photos. The printer is connected to your computer by a USB cable, which is not included which is a bit of a pain if you don't have a spare one lying around! The printer is capable of printing onto plain, inkjet or photo paper, envelopes, transparencies, labels, cards, and iron-on transfers. I recently printed onto an iron on transfer and was extremely impressed with the result. I have also printed onto photo paper and was impressed with the quality of my pictures.The printer is compatible with the following operating systems:
Microsoft Windows 98
Windows Me
Windows 2000 Professional
Windows XP Home and Professional
Mac OS 9.1, X v 10.1 and above
Size and Weight
============
The printer is 16.9 inches wide, 8.1 inches deep and 5.6 inches high.
The printer weights approximately 2.3kg.
Printing
======
The printer can print up to 17 pages per minute in black, and up to 12 pages per minute in colour. The print-cancel button enables you to stop the printing if necessary and the on-screen ink-level indicator enables you to see roughly how much black ink you have left and how much coloured ink you have left, I have found this particularly useful when I know I have a lot of work to print as it comes up on the screen and warns me when its getting low.
The printer can print in three different qualities, draft, normal or best.
In draft quality the printer can print 17 pages per minute in black and 12 pages per minute in colour.
In normal quality the printer can print 8 pages per minute in black and 4 pages per minute in colour.
In best quality the printer can print 0.9 pages per minute in black and 0.8 pages per minute in colour although in my own experience it is sometimes slower than this.
The maximum input capacity of paper is 100 sheets and the maximum input capacity of envelopes is 10. The maximum output capacity is 50 sheets although I find that after about 5 sheets smudging sometimes occurs
Price
=====
Obviously different shops have different prices but I have looked around and in general this printer costs between £50-£60 but I got mine in a shop sale for £46 which I feel is a very good price for such a good printer.
Documentation
===========
The printer has two coloured posters, one to show how to set-up the computer (a process which is remarkably simple - even to me!!) and one which shows how to install the printer. The reference guide is printed in black and white on recycled paper (good for the environment!!) and contains clear operating instructions as well as a troubleshooting guide (always useful!). The guide is written in English, Portuguese, Spanish and what I think is Arabic.
My Experience
===========
My experience with this printer has been a positive one - this is a rare thing as the one thing to do with a computer that I normally find problematic is the printer but this has not been the case (luckily!) The printing quality is excellent and printing pictures and photos is very successful. The printer is not too noisy which is always a bonus when trying to concentrate! The ink cartridges are easy to insert and easy to buy when they run out. The size and shape of the printer is ideal as it fits well in my desk but does not take up too much space. There are only two slight problems I can think of and one is the lack of USB cable with the printer seeing as you cant use it without one! The other thing is that the output tray is foldable which I find can cause problems as if I knock the printer slightly without realising the output tray slides in a little bit and so when I print the paper doesn't have enough space to come out and can cause smudging but I think this is mainly because of the position on my desk that my printer is in! Other than that I would highly recommend this printer and I think it Is well priced for the quality of printing you get.

- 06/03/09 Most desktop printers come sans USB cable these days...which is rather cheapskate of the manufacturers, imho. |
