... easy but only because I knew to install the software before connecting up the printer - it does not mention this anywhere in the printed documents - I found this out by reading reviews on the internet. It also helped that I had the required USB leads already as of course none come with the printer - I knew this but many people get caught out. If i ahd been a complete computer beginner the set up could have caused problems, because I am a competent user who has done his research it was fairly easy. In use the printer ...more

I have to admit I have always used HP printers and never used anyone elses. I started with a Deskjet 500 way back with my original Atari and have had quite a few over the years building up to my trusty Deskjet 970 which finally died on me a week ago. When it came to replace it I only looked at HP printers. Back then the choice was always fairly simple as there was not a great choice. These days there seem to be so many HP printers available. I needed a good photo print machine but also needed quick normal printing which seemed to rule out the special photo printers which HP are really pushing at the moment. At first shot the driver software loaded but subsequently crashed the computer at indesciminate times. Uninstalled it and downloaded the driver from the HP website and all is now well. Having said that I have loaded the driver from the supplied CD onto my laptop and that runs OK without problems. My desktop is XP Home and my laptop is Windows 2000 so don't know what to make of it! Loading the inkcartridges was a little tricky because there is a pice of block plastic in the way with the printer turned off and unplugged from the mains.
