Advantages: Nice high photo resolution for a Hewlett Packard, fast, easy to setup and nice looking!

Disadvantages: The price of Hewlett packard Cartridges is still very high!

Before I go into detail on the specs of this little honey I have to say that firstly, if your on a £100ish budget for a printer, then this one should be top of your list!
I forced da boss in work to let me open one of these babies and replace it with my old Hewlett packard 690c.
I took it out of the box and set it beside it's old cousin and it looked a lot better, i was just hoping it would perform just as well, and was astounded to find it did and more some.
It uses a new colour layering technology developed by HP which basically will give you photo quality output onto any paper, so there is not really a need for photo quality paper if you want reasonable quality output onto ordinary paper. The transfer from what you see on the screen to what you get on paper is also quite nice compared to older hewlett packards, you can tell that they are definitely trying to compete with superior photo quality providers such as epson and succeeding too.
Being HP you would also be hard pushed to tell the difference in the black text quality to that of a laserjet printer, no jagged edges at all on black text. Also it provides a nice 8 pages per minute in draught black & white and 5 pages per minute in colour which is quite excellent for a printer at this price.
It's also nice to see printers these days coming with both the parallel and USB connections and the 840c is no exception, and as I have Windows 98 (needed for USB) and a USB port on my computer I opted for the latter. Installing it couldn't have been simpler, it comes with drivers for Windows NT 4, 98, 95, 3.X and 2000 Professional and Im sure it should be ok with the new windows Millenium edition. Anyway, I popped in the disk and it installed the printer practically automatically! Childs Play!

Pages Per Minute Black : 8
Pages Per Minute Colour: 5

Max Res On Photo Paper : 1200 X 600

I'd recommend this to anyone, and hope they appreciate it as much as I do!
