The HP 990Cxi is a welcome edition to the world of printing. With a standard speed of about 4 seconds (per page) to print at draft quality all the way up to around 12-15 seconds (per page) at highest quality. This printer has seen me through thick and thin, and is generally reliable. I have had my DeskJet 990CXi for several years now however, I haven't had the need to use this printer at home much over the past few months as I purchased a more modern printer/copier/scanner combos, however recently the need has arisen much more often as I have run out of ink for it, and so I now have a greater appreciation of this battleaxe of a printer. I have owned my 990CXI for over 10 years now. It is still going strong, I don't know how much I have printed on it but believe it's well into the 50,000 pages and this point. It is frankly the most reliable printer I have ever owned. Even when premium laser printers have given up the ghost it still goes on and on. The ink is relatively expensive compared to modern printers but that is offset by the printers lifetime. After this time is has started to Jam paper occasionally but the design of the printer has made this a snap to resolve every time. This has been a brilliant printer - so much so bought a second one as a standby. Just done a status print and the regularly used machine has just exceeded 40,000 prints and never done a thing wrong. As another reviewer says, it is very quiet except for a few clunks when loading the paper. It has a very small footprint and sits on the corner of my disk without any problems. The cartridges can be quite expensive, so shop around as you can get some good bargains. Have tried compatible cartridges, but some have failed or not lasted as long as the originals - quality is also not as good on non-originals either. Comparing to my previous Epson printer, I haven't found this HP so great. Duplex printing didn't work from the start. I strongly discourage buying this printer to anyone who has anything in common with professional work.
