Advantages: Easy to install and use, good quality printing, photocopying and scanning
Disadvantages: Paperjams, cost of photoprints and the fact that it stopped working
Summary
Good quality photo prints
Great, easy to use software included
Easy to use
Paper would often get jammed
Broke just outside the 12 month guarantee period. Cheaper to print photos via internet.
This was the first "decent printer" we had ever bought. We were so excited when it arrived - at last, colour, photos, scanning. We had a wonderful honeymoon period that lasted 12 months - the machine worked perfectly, software a doodle to install, photos can be printed quite easily. Scanner produces a quality good enough for home use and standalone photocopying very useful on occaision. Card reader simplified getting photos from camera to the computer. Printer would also print without computer switched on - though we didnt really ever use this facility.
However, around 12 months and a day later, it all began to fall apart - or rather the machine just stopped working. Basically what happened is that the printer would not recognise the fact that we had installed brand new ink cartridges and kept telling us that there was no in available. This is a common problem in this type of HP printer - and there isnt really anyway of rectifying it (as far as I am aware).
We were able to get a refund (due to having bought the machine at Costco who refunded the money without any questions) but not a refund on the ink cartridges.
Just in case this review doesnt deter you from buying a HP printer do ensure that you factor in the cost of replacement cartridges into any calculations/budgets. All ink cartridges are fairly expensive buy HP ones seem to be one of the more costly.
All in all a very good machine, with great software but with technical glitches that make it not a particularly good buy.
Summary: Good quality printing but poor quality components
