Advantages: Cheap, easy to use

Disadvantages: Cartridge price

I got my Lexmark Z11 free with a PC package but I have seen them in the shops for anything between £50-70 which is very competitive with other brands.

Compared to some printers I have seen, mine is pretty bulky but by no means is it too large, it fits very nicely on the bottom shelf of my desk.

The handbook was very clear and made the setup process very quick and easy.

The printer has a feature which I especially liked and this is an ink indicator, it shows how far down the cartridge you have used and alerts you when it is low. Now the cartridges are my only let down. The colour and black are separate which is pretty common, however you can only use one at a time, so you do have to change the cartridge regularly if you do not want the colour one to run unnecessarily when you only need black text for example. However the cartridges are very easy to change, you just lift up the cover, and the cartridges clip in. Also the cartridges are very expensive, £25+, so a refill kit is probably your best option.

***UPDATE***
We have since tried a refill kit, both colour and black and found them very easy and half the price of a standard Lexmark cartridge.

The paper feed holds about 80-100 sheets of paper.

The printer does everything I need and more, and for the price it is probably a safe bet.

***FURTHER UPDATE***
On the second attempt with the refill kit, the print quality was so bad we had no option but to buy another printer, as that only worked out £20 more than a black and a colour cartridge. We have since been told this is very unusual with refill kits, maybe just a bad experience.

The problem is the price of ink- Jungle have done a few good deals on the 1980 and 1970 cartridges for this printer, so try them.
You can't get compatible cartridges though. I bought some for our Z11s at work, but they were rubbish. When I looked closely, they were actually refilled Lexmark ones , disguised! I had a big complain about that one to our suppliers!

I used to get re-fill kits for my cannon bjc 4200 and they were fine, but I removed the lid that was glued down on the cartridge and fill it that way(remembering to stick the lid back with sticky tape), found the needle was none fine enough to pierce the pad where the ink comes out of. Nice op by the way, I like the idea of the low ink indicator, I think all printers should come with that.

I'm trying to decide whether to buy a Z22, it's very similar so thanks for the advice!
