Advantages: a cheap printer if you are only going to use it very occasionally

Disadvantages: very slow, very expensive ink cartridges

OK - so I picked up the printer in my local Sainsbury's for 50 quid, so I wasn't expecting a lot, but it was worse than I expected. Yes the quality is OK but it's so slow - forget 4 pages per minute, each sheet takes more than a minute and that's just black and white text, no graphics, nothing fancy. On sheets with a lot of text it takes more than two minutes!

Then there's the ink. The Lexmark cartridges are by far the most expensive I've come across - retail about £22 for black (about £15 mail order compatibles) which I could live with if they were economical but I'm a third of the way through the first cartridge and I haven't even printed 50 sheets yet

The cartridges are very expensive and tricky to re-fill, but you can buy compatible ones for about a third of the price

I agree - and I have yet to find a decent Lexmark printer. As you say, the cartridges are extremely expensive.
