Advantages: Attractive, does a nice job
Disadvantages: Not a new model
I was in need of a printer and my sister gave me this printer a while back now, as she had 2 and this one was still in the box and she didn't need it so she thought i might as well make use of it. I was really pleased but a bit weary, i knew Lexmark was a good and trustworthy brand, but i knew this model wasn't knew, so i was thinking that i might be as well going out and buying a brand new one.
Anyway, i got the printer home and checked it out.
The packaging was really good and secure, no chance of the printer being damaged. In the box was the printer,a user's guide, an installation CD and the USB and electrical cables, and a 1 year warranty which had already run out anyway!
The user's guide was really explanatory and really easy to understand, although it is really thick as it has lots of different languages in.
The printer looks quite professional, it's a grey/creamy kind of colour, it has a very neat paper tray and a nice large paper dispenser/exit tray. There are 2 buttons on the top of the printer, one to switch the printer on and off (green one) and the other is to feed the paper in.
The printer was very easy to install and operate, even if you aren't a whizz with computers, as in the user's guide there are step by step pictures which i thought were very handy.
With the installation being a breeze, i was able to start my printing within around 10-15 mins.
The first picture i printed off came out smoothly with no problems and the quality of the printing was superb, i couldn't fault it. The printer is colour (and black for true black text). The printing time was quite reasonable as well, maybe a little slow if you were in a rush (3 pages per minute in colour, 6 pages per minute black). Also the noise level of the printer is ok, it isn't silent but it isn't one of those really loud can't hear yourself talking ones.
The audible prompts such as, "printing started" "please refil the paper tray" etc, make the printer easy and a pleasure to use.
The printer has Accu-Feed paper handling which virtually eliminates jams. I have been using this printer for a while now and the printer has only jammed once on me and it was only a minor jam, which was completely my fault anyway.
Refillable cartridges can be used on this printer also, which saves you quite alot of money than buying the cartridges new. To change the cartridge you just lift the lid and there you go, simple as that.

All in all i think the Lexmark Z12 Color Jetprinter is a really neat little thing, although this printer isn't new on the market, it is a really good buy for people who are looking for a good printer that will do the simple tasks of what a printer should do but don't want to pay over the odds.
Summary: Cheap and very cheerful
