Advantages: Affordable, good quality.

Disadvantages: Price of cartridges.

So there I was new printer in hand all ready to go but with a few problems, namely no software and no printer!

Off I popped to jungle.com to have a look at what they had on offer in the printer market and found this rather nicely priced (£50.00) Lexmark Z12.

Now the nice thing on receiving the printer, and I do not know if this is just a jungle thing or what, is that all of the required bits were in the box. e.g. cartridge, cable, power supply. There is nothing worse than getting all excited about your new bit of kit and then having to trudge to town to buy a cable!

With an absolute foolproof set-up guide attaching and installing the printer was simplicity itself. Once up and running the three qualities of print are all you will really need for every day use. The quick print 600dpi is a basic draft mode for rough stuff and churns out at one hell of a speed! The normal 600dpi is what you would use for your job applications or CV and then you have the 1200dpi photo quality. Now I haven’t actually used this for the correct printing but I wouldn’t recommend doing letters or large pictures on it as the density of the ink on the low quality paper causes it to blur and gives a poorer quality than the 600dpi!

The overall design of the kit is excellent with an up-to-date curvy cream design, which will fit into any p.c. set-up perfectly. It is robust enough to withstand a little abuse and can be easily cleaned.

The only niggles that I have with the machine is that occasionally the paper feed, due to it only having one roller on the right hand side, can sometimes feed the paper in at strange angles and cause a few problems. The second is the price of a new cartridge, which as far as I can see is going to be about £25.00 for an original one!

Other than that though a highly competent printer at a great price!
