Advantages: Fast, High Quality, Easy to use

Disadvantages: Cartridge cost, Separate power supply

There is an opinion that if something is cheaper than the competition then it must be rubbish. After all you get what you pay for.

The Lexmark Z53 blows that opinion away completely. I wanted a new photo quality printer to replace my Epson Stylus 900. I like the 'straight-paper-path' approach of the Epson but found the speed didn't live up to expectation.

Enter the Lexmark. How about a full colour high resolution A4 photograph printed in less than 10 minutes (it would have been quicker but my PC is past its sell by date).

Setting up the Lexmark was so easy my 6 year old daughter could have done it.

Text quality is also excellent and very fast. An A4 page takes less than 20 seconds to print.

This printer is well worth the £120 that I paid for it.

The only downside is the cost of the cartridges. Come on Lexmark, they can't really cost that much (£25-£45 each) to produce now can they?

One of the reasons Lexmark cartridges are one of the highest priced is that the printer head is on the cartridge (the same with HP), so you are paying for this on top of a cartridge.

Howev er, this does mean that you (should) maintain print quality as the head is replaced each time - unlike other makes, which, if the print head goes, buy a new printer, its cheaper!!

I got a Z12 for £50, does me fine.On the cartridge front, try refilling, I can do mine for £3 a shot!!

I have Z52 which is equally awesome...aside the software it uses. Never try to uninstall Lexmark software, it can screw around with your machine big time (it's done it on three machines that I've tried now, with different CD's - no response from Lexmark helpline...)
