Advantages: none
Disadvantages: very unreliable
Our Olivetti LP192 printer is possessed! It started a year or so ago when we got this printer thing with our PC from Comet. I unwrapped it and realised it was actually second hand, all covered in ink and cellotaped up into an obviously well used and abused box, with what looked like an electric kettle flex stuffed in with it! I took it back and two weeks later we got a new one with the right lead but no paper..I spent two days trying to install it before my wife finally got it plumbed in, (it kept throwing up errors)... I got some paper and it just dragged the whole lot through on the first print attempt...I eventually got something printed and then it said out of ink! I unplugged it and tried again the next day and it worked ok. But when we really needed it, it got all confused, it said "out of ink" (it wasn't), then "you are trying to print a colour document with a black ink head" (we weren't). We fixed it again (by fiddling about with it a lot) and eventually it printed some test pages and our important document. A few weeks later we really needed it again and it messed up again! Pretty much the same experience as last time. (Yes we uninstalled and reinstalled it loads of times). But how does it know when its really needed so it can play up? Eventually it got worse and worse reliability wise and now its stuffed under the bed in shame.

- 12/08/01 Sorry for low rating, but it could use a bit more detail about the printer, such as print quality, speed, cost of refills etc. |
