Advantages: Cheap - and cheerful
Disadvantages: You gets what you pay for!
I fell for a modest con trick recently when I was offered a "free" C8. The condition was that you buy a set of the smaller colour cartridges, not necessarily the high capacity black. I felt slightly uneasy about it, so I telephoned and asked if this meant that I would have 2 sets of cartridges for my £30 + £10 delivery + VAT (=£47) and the answer was no, what they were doing was getting you to pay for the set already included with the printer! However, £47 still seemed a good deal, so I went ahead. the latest Viking price is about £58, by the way, so it looks as though Xerox are dumping the things! However, as a printer, I am generally pleased. My previous one was a mono HP. I have produced some good results but it IS a cheap printer, so I didn't expect perfection - in fact, it is quite a bit better than I expected and the feature whereby you can change colour cartridges individually is a definite plus. Both my cyan and yellow ran out yesterday, but the magenta still has about a quarter to go. I would recommend the large capacity black for mono printing. I have noticed that the machine uses some colour even when printing black and the minute black cartridge goes down at a most alarming rate which I suppose is why they come in pairs when you buy them. By and large, until I can afford a really good HP in the £150+ bracket, this will do fine.
