Advantages: seperate in tanks mean less waste, cheap to buy
Disadvantages: noisy, poor quality
I decided to try the docuprint C8 when freecolourpinters.com were offering them for £40. I really wish I hadn't bothered. The idea is great - four individual ink tanks so you are not wasting ink but as they are around £10 each you don't see any saving. Don't touch the compatible ones, they are so thin and you end up with a soggy mess. The printing quality is ok but I had a lot of problems with paper jamming or not feeding through properly. It is also very noisy. It does a print head maintenance thing daily but this can be any time day or night and has often woken me up. You cannot have a conversation while it is working. We have now replaced it with an Epson 870 and relegated it to the boys' room but even they don't use it and would rather save their work onto disk and print on the epson. I really would not touch this printer with a barge pole. Freecolourprinters are now doing a small Epson which I quite fancy for the kids but I e-mailed them to ask about quality, explaining about the pile of junk they sold last time and never got a reply so I think I'll leave it.

- 27/07/01 Alan, there wasn't any bundled software apart from driver disc. Ink seems to run out more quickly than any other printer I've had. |

- 26/07/01 I must agree with aljones - for £40, you shouldn't expect much from a home printer. However, the cheap price is usually offset by the hugh cost of purchasing new ink, that many companies charge. Although it could've been a little longer, still a good op. |

- 26/07/01 For £40 what do you expect? HP and Epsom have always been regarded as the best, and in my view while Xerox make perfectly good photocopiers they've never really done that well at home printers. The op could have done with a bit more detail, on things such as bundled software, build quality, and how long the ink lasts, if it so expensive. Alan |
