I won 2 of these LED Mouse Pads a couple of months ago in one of the thousands of World Cup competitions that were going about, the prize was a football shaped mouse pad and this dolphin one. I don't know the price of them because I can't find these mouse pads online but Hama are usually priced pretty good so I can't see it being more than a tenner.
It's a nice idea but a bit useless actually for most people. Attached to the mouse pad there is a USB cable, you plug it in and the moon and sea on the picture get a lovely glow. It's not bright but nice when the room is quite dim..... and that paragraph gives 2 reasons why it's a bit useless! For a start the USB cable isn't all that long, on the dolphin pad it's only about 10 inches long and that only just about stretches to my nearest USB port. The one on the football shaped mouse pad is a bit longer but not as much as a lot of people will need. The length is about right for using the mouse pad with a laptop but most people I know use the touch pad on their laptop..... and anyway you might find the cable is too LONG for using comfortably next to a laptop!
The other weird thing is who uses their computer in the dark??? Yeah, the mouse pad looks wicked when the room is in darkness but the glow isn't strong enough to work by so most of the time it will be used in the light anyway and then you lose most of the light up effect!
The mouse pad itself is nice to use. It's got a slightly textured surface so whatever mouse you're using gets a good grip, that makes it smooth and responsive with none of that horrible slipping you get on some cheap mousemats. It's not as thick as you'd think, because of it being a light up mouse pad I thought it would be thicker to hold the lighting mechanics but it's not. Tell the truth it's a bit thicker than average but I've only noticed that because when I came to write this review I compared it to another mousemat that I've been using recently.
The non slip backing is good and holds onto the desk nice, that gives me a comfortable surface to work on with no having to fix the position of the mousemat every few minutes.
I would recommend this mouse pad if you can get it at a good price. Before you do though definitely check the cable is going to reach your USB port because if you spend cash on it and get it home to find it won't fit then you'll be mega disappointed. It still looks nice without the glow but then if that's what you want you might as well go out and buy a cheaper mouse pad that DOESN'T claim to light up!
