Hama Mouse Pad "pro", Water
If you can have such a thing as a favourite mouse mat then this is mine. I spend a lot of time at my computer and I sometimes suffer form a sore pain in my hand, it was my husband that initially suggested trying out a more supportive mouse mat and I was pleasantly surprised that this did help to relieve some of the pain.
As well as being much more comfortable to use than a basic flat mouse mat this also looks really nice with an idyllic cool blue water pattern. The mat has a wrist cushion which is made from a foamy type material that squishes down to the curve of my wrist when I use it. However, it soon bounces back to its usual shape when not in use.
Due to the fact that this mouse mat had been sitting in a storage box waiting for me to finally get round to unpacking, it was a tad dusty. I gave it a quick wipe down with a dry cloth, then a quick wash with a damp cloth and a squirt of Dettol. It cleaned up very nicely and it looks pretty much back to how it was when it was initially purchased.
The back of the mat is made of a non slip rubber type material, which comes in handy when in use. When you place this down somewhere as long as you aren't been too rough with it then it shouldn't move around while you are using it.
The mouse mat is very sturdy and it has a plastic border which makes sure that it holds its shape well, and it
won't crinkle or curl at the edges, which can be a pet peeve of mine. I have managed to spill some tea over it and it cleaned up well, which isn't necessarily true of all mouse mats. The material of the mat means that even my optical mouse responds better than it does when placed directly on my desk.
I bought mine from Amazon where it is currently available for £11.96, although this is expensive for a mouse mat, it is a quality item that has so far done me well and I am sure will continue to do so for a long time yet.
This gets a full five out of five stars from me. I would happily recommend this mouse mat to anyone else, it does look nice and although it is pricey it is by far the best mouse mat I have owned. I have had this for quite a while now and it really been a good mouse mat that still looks as attractive as it did when I bought it.
I was given this mouse pad as a Christmas present last year and I think it is absolutely brilliant. For quite a few years I was putting up with those rubbery ones with the inbuilt gel pad for the wrist and the fabric surface for the pad. And then after a while, the fabric surface started to get dirty and fray at the edges and the whole thing started to look really untidy on my desk. So when I got this new one I was quite excited by it (OK, I'm getting excited about a mouse pad - I really do need to get out more!!)
Well, what do you get? For a start, I didn't realise that they were fairly expensive, coming in at around the £11 mark on line, when most other mouse mats are only a few pounds. But with this one, you get quite a well designed pad with a light blue plastic framework to which everything else attaches. On the bottom, you have 4 rubber feet which grips it firmly to the desk and stops you chasing your mouse mat around your desk top as you move your mouse over it. Size wise it is about 21.5 cm at the widest point by 25 cm length. The whole pad itself actually sits about 15 mm off of your desk on top of the plastic framework.
The top bit is also very good. At the bottom end of the top (nearest to you if you follow me), you have the gel pad element which has been ergonomically designed to provide plenty of support for your wrist and this is firmly sealed into the plastic base and then covered with a blue, almost silky type fabric. Now with the other gel pads that I have used in the past, I tended to find that after a lot of use in one session, they tended to start to cause friction burns on my wrist. But the combination of this gel pad with the fabric covering doesn't seem to cause that issue. I'm not sure why. It may be that the fabric is stretched just a little bit tighter over the pad on this mouse pad, or it has more of a silky feel to it. But whatever it is, it just doesn't seem to cause me that friction burn problem anymore.
But where I think this mouse pad really shines through is with the mouse pad element itself. You basically have a plastic wipe clean surface which has a blue water motif on it (hence the mention of water in the title). The surface is very slightly roughened to provide some resistance if you should decide to use one of those older mice with a ball underneath rather than the newer optical versions, where the surface has a sort of matt finish to allow these optical mice to be easily used. This pad element is then fixed firmly into the blue plastic frame.
So overall, this mouse pad is well designed, looks good and is probably aimed at the more serious mouse user - hence the Pro name. (Is there a training course you can go on to become a serious mouse user?) It has enough weight to hold it in position on your desk, where that 'hold' is reinforced with the rubber feet located underneath the pad, and after nearly a year's use, it still looks like new.
Ok, it is a little more expensive than most other mouse pads, but it is very comfortable to use for long periods and seems to be built and designed to last. So in my opinion, the larger initial outlay will probably pay for itself in the long run with not having to buy so many new mouse mats as the cheaper variants wear out.
So this pad has a well deserved 5* from me.
