Advantages: Relatively inexpensive compared with repair costs, quick process of getting replacement vouchers

Disadvantages: Three weeks to fix is a long delay without a TV

I mus admit, I found the whateverhappens insurance extremely useful for my claim. I had a 45" DLP TV which after 18months or so the bulb went. Despite the bulb not being covered by the policy, the guys took it in anway and repaired the TV and replaced the bulb... Brilliant, considering the bulbs are nearly £300. After 3years of owning the TV it went wrong again. Again they took it in for about 3 weeks only to tell me it was not repairable, and even worse news was that they no longer manufacture DLP TVs due to the cost involved.

Due to this though, this meant there was not an equivalent specification available from Currys, the they sent vouchers for the original price of the TV. Now in 3 years, plasma prices have come WAYYYY down which meant that not only could I get myself a brand new Panasonic 42" Plasma, but get a nice and slick 32" Samsung to play my Xbox360 on, all for nothing. The insurance saved me a small fortune when the bulb originally went wrong, and then got me 2 TVs for the price of one. Needless to say the cover has been taken out again!

Summary: Good way to save money, as in 5 years something is bound to go wrong, so saves on repair costs
