Advantages: Competitive quotes, good cover.
Disadvantages: You have to wear a Trilby (not really)
SAGA insurance, is underwritten by UK Insurance Ltd, and they seem to be a good company. I've been with them for a couple of years, since I reached the Hawaii age (Five Oh).
I tried online, hoping to find a competitive price, & although Saga wasn't the cheapest, it did seem cheaper than most. The cover was exactly what I wanted. AlthoughI have not had to claim so far, I did have a van reverse into me, and I went through the procedure as if I was claiming but in the end, the van owner paid for the repairs direct to tha garage.
The policy covers social domestic & pleasure, with a full no claims bonus, which is protected, plus legal protection. This cost an extra £20 which I thought was a rather expensive.
New for Old, yes it is exactly that, If your car is stolen but not recovered, or it's damaged and the cost of repairs is more than 60% of the manufacturers list price, Saga replaces your vehicle with a brand new one. This only applies if your car is less than 2 years old, & has covered less than 12,000 miles.
Cover is free for stereos too, and completely unlimited for any audio/visual and/or communication equipment (so long as it's permanently fitted to the vehicle)
Personal belongings cover, covered up to a maximum of £1000, although in December this rises to £2000, for any gifts bought or received.
if you need a car while yours is repaired, you will have the use of a courtesy car, however only for two weeks.
If you are going into western Europe, you are also covered, and if you go further than the Europe, you will get a green card free.
You also have the option of breakdown cover, is just £32.
My NCB is protected, and I am allowed two "shunts" in a five year period (Excluding glass)
In the event of a medical emergency, the car is also covered while being driven by anyone with a licence, as long as you are in the vehicle. The car is also insured for any driver while being driven home, after such a medical/motoring emergency. You have a personal helpline for any problems you may have regarding motoring, which is 24/7, manned by a team of experts and solicitors. This service is free, and any advice will be confirmed in writing if requested.
Caravan cover, trailers or caravans you tow are covered, but must comply with legal regulations regarding towing.
Payment. You can set up a direct debit, pay via credit or debit cards, Visa Mastercard, Maestro or whatever, but, if you pay by cheque, it costs you an extra £3 for "admin fees" You also lose your 20% discount for signing up online.
Excess:- The excess for fire & theft is £100, this rises to £200 for accidental damage, windscreen replacement costs £75, but if the screen is repaired, you don't pay any excess.
I would advise giving the website a go, there are some good tips on there, you get a free quote while on there too. You do not need to be over 50 to apply, but your quote will be more expensive.

- 17/09/08 I have been with Saga for about 5 years now... they have been very good to deal with and ( touch wood ) I have not needed to use them regarding accidents. I also receive their monthly magazine for being an insurance customer and it has some very good articles in it related to old crumblies like you and I.. Thanks. J.xx |
