Doo yoo in general
I got an email just about six weeks ago from the Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis with a list of money making opportunities on the internet. I have to admit I was a bit dubious about signing up to any of them as I had tried a few in the past. For instance I had tried valued opinions before and it took me ages to work up just a five pound voucher so I didn't really think money making on the web was possible. I was attracted to doo yoo because of its 50p payment threshold for a premium review. I initially started reviewing for the money however that soon changed and I became almost hooked to the site and I now wouldn't buy a product without first reading a review of it on the site.
Overview
The website is very well layed out and easily navigated by people familiar with internet use. Each user has the opportunity to upload a picture of themselves which adds to the look and community feel of the site. The site itself is a reviewing site where by community members submit reviews that can earn doo yoo miles. A premium review can earn the author 500 doo yoo miles or 50 pence. Extra doo yoo miles can be earned each time the review is read and although a small amount it really can add up doubling and trebling the money the review earns the author. So it really is worth putting a bit of extra effort into making a review good.
What is a premium review?
A premium review is one that contains 150 words and can be about a product that you have tried or tested. So far I have wrote reviews on whatever has taken my fancy. This has included tinned sweet corn, bleach, chocolate bars and x box games. I tend to try and write at least one review a day usually during my lunch break in work.
My opinion
I have been a member of doo yoo for about six weeks. In that time I have become hooked to the site and I check it at least once or twice a day. I have begun to enjoy reading reviews as much as I enjoy posting my own. This is something that I didn't anticipate at the start.
I have a couple of things I have noticed with the site. I as a new member was not familiar with the rating of other people's reviews. I almost felt like I had no authority or right to review other people's reviews. I soon lost this by reading other peoples reviews of doo yoo. However I always try and read newer reviewers work I notice that they very rarely would return to review any of my postings. Perhaps they are in the same position as I was in and a simple friendly email by the doo yoo organisers upon joining encouraging them to participate in reading others reviews would be useful.
The majority of comments and feedback I have received on the site has been very positive. In fact I have been encouraged by all the support I have got from doo yoo members but I have been surprised by some member's attention to detail (see George Best city airport review comments). In my opinion people are entitled to make a mistake here and there and correcting someone to make yourself look good is almost a bit sad. This may have not been their intention but its how it initially came across to a new member. The member in question has apologised privately and I was not even offended. However a private message to point out the mistake would have been far more appropriate.
I will always try and return a rate and if I have missed anyone feel free to contact me and I will do so. However I have noticed that this is not everyone's policy. In my 6 weeks I seem to a 50% return review rate. This is pretty poor in fairness. I could understand if people are busy and are not on the computer that's fair enough. But I have noticed some people are still writing and posting many reviews throughout this time and as such I have gone out of my way to avoid these reviewers.
Other reviewers however are excellent at this and should be rewarded even more. As some one who now reads more than he posts I notice these people everywhere. Katykicker, xxfoxyredxx, jjjj and bruffyboy to name a few. These are the real heroes on this site and surprisingly I don't even think any of them are guides. Your good work does not go unnoticed though.
Summary
Overall I have become hooked to the site in my first six weeks I have wrote 75 reviews which has netted me a grand total of around £75 pounds. I have not cashed any in yet and might just save it for a treat sometime. I would like to thank all those that take the time to post such interesting reviews and then take the courtesy to return and read one of my reviews. It is much appreciated.
Oh and thanks for reading this.
Summary: Very good site which I have recommened to many friends.

- 06/07/09 I always return rates and rate far more than I receive. If a member's profile shows they do not return rate then I avoid them. :) |
