Advantages: A great way to earn a little extra money and meet new people
Disadvantages: Speed clickers. Now less miles for reviewing certain products
Even though I've only been registered with Dooyoo for four months, I am thoroughly enjoying myself on the site by reading and rating fellow Dooyooers' reviews and writing about my own experiences with products and services.
I can't remember how I initially heard about the site; I think it might have been reviewed by Martin Lewis and consequently, I signed up. I was a little naive to start and initially waited for Dooyoo to email me with the reviews that they wanted me to rate! How dull was I?
Unfortunately, I'm one of those impatient people who tend to get on with something and then read the instructions later. This was the mistake I initially made with Dooyoo, as I was going through a particularly bad time with my health and I found the site was a chance to escape from my problems.
I rattled off quite a few reviews in the first couple of days; the quality of which wasn't good and thanks to one of the guides, I was brought to my senses. I'm not going to mention her name as I don't feel it's appropriate, but she sent me a lovely email giving me advice on writing and using the site.
I'm still in touch with her now and I cannot thank her enough for her advice and support - you know who you are, so thank you! In the meantime, Dooyoo had locked a number of my reviews and when I looked back at their content, I was not surprised!
As I was incapacitated for a while following an operation, I spent a considerable amount of time reading around the site and looking at the work of other Dooyooers. I have read and rated some fantastic reviews and as a result, feel I've learned quite a lot.
I find myself mentally evaluating everything I buy, which drives me husband mad! When I start writing I always try to make sure that my reviews are fully informative and assume that the person reading my work knows absolutely nothing about the product.
Whilst I don't want to bore the reader, I provide details of who makes the products and give a little background information if appropriate. I then describe what the product looks like, colour, size, weight, ingredients, taste, texture and anything else I feel is relative, including the price and where it can be purchased.
I then give information on how to use the product and my personal experience of using it. I've read so many comments against reviews where some Dooyooers are offended by the writer's review. Reviews are personal opinion and what suits me might not suit someone else - I love marmite, but my husband can't even wash my dirty knife as he hates the stuff!
I find my writing style has considerably improved (well, I hope it has!) and I absolutely love reviewing what I've eaten or personally used or experienced.
I am finding the site extremely addictive, as I love reading about new products and other Dooyooers' experiences in using them.
When reading a review concerning ebay a few weeks ago, I felt the content seemed strangely familiar. Of course it was familiar - it was one I'd written several weeks earlier! Someone had actually had the audacity to copy and paste my review and pass it off as they own! They hadn't even changed any of the words! Fortunately, the person concerned has now been removed from the site as I learned it was not only my review that he had copied.
Anyone who writes on Dooyoo knows that plagiarism is an absolutely no-go area and I can't understand where the fun is of just copying and pasting something belonging to somebody else.
The area I am finding extremely difficult is reviewing DVD's as I've read some great reviews and also some not so great reviews. However, if I start reading a DVD review about a film I haven't seen, I won't read any more if the writer is revealing the plot. I love reading an overview, but not the full details of the film.
I'm not sure what readers want here as I've seen comments stating that the writer has revealed too much and others where the comments state the writer hasn't written enough. I think this is probably an area that I just won't touch!
I've met some really lovely people on this site and my Circle of Friends has considerably grown. However, there are quite a few other people who write great reviews and I'm waiting for their pictures to pop up in the newest review section so I can save them. I've had some wonderful comments left against some of my reviews and some people have even taken the time and trouble to write to me personally. This is an extremely friendly site with a good community spirit.
I now look forward to the familiar photos appearing in the list of new reviews, as I love reading your work. I thought Dooyoo was supposed to earn you a little extra cash, but since I've joined, I've ended up buying products that you've reviewed so it's costing me a fortune!!
When I first joined I was somewhat surprised how fast the dooyoo miles tot up, particularly as the balance is constantly changing. I've redeemed my first lot of dooyoo miles for Amazon vouchers as unfortunately, when I divorced my first husband six years ago, he took the majority of our DVD collection, and so I'm slowly replenishing my favourites. I've managed to purchase brand new copies from Amazon of films such as Very Bad Things, Misery, White Chicks, Men Behaving Badly and The Truman Show; all of which are in my opinion, are absolutely fantastic films.
Obviously, the miles are not going to clock up so quickly now due to the introduction of Dooyoo's new three tier payment system and I'm doubtful whether I'll continue to write about food products. I spend at least half an hour writing the majority of my reviews and I also research the product on the internet and in my opinion, a 10p payout for doing so is really not worth it.
I've already noticed regular Dooyooers are now starting to write about entirely different products when their forte may have been food or music. One person in particular springs to mind as he has written some fabulous CD reviews, but he's obviously not going to receive the same payout, even though his reviews are always extremely informative.
Dooyoo should be available on the NHS as it one of the best contraceptives available. Whilst I have a Mirena coil fitted for medical reasons, if I did require a contraceptive, I would choose dooyoo, as long gone are those romantic passionate nights, as I'm now always shattered by the time I go to bed after staring at my pc!! Sorry hubby!!
Last week I received an email in my Dooyoo account from Imperial Leather who wanted to thank me for writing a positive review on one of their products. They asked for my name and address so they could send me some free gifts. Initially I was a little dubious so emailed them via their website.
However, I was thrilled to discover the email was genuine and today I received a box containing four gorgeous recently launched shower gels! You never know who's reading your reviews so I think I'll now start writing about high performance cars, mansions and luxury yachts!!
I recently lost quite a few of my Dooyoo miles, presumably because a couple of Dooyoo members had rated over a dozen of my reviews in a few seconds. Whilst I appreciate speed clicking is not allowed, as clearly they had not read my reviews, I feel a fairer way would be for Dooyoo to remove the "offending" miles from the speed clicker's account. Therefore, this would discourage them from doing it again.
All in all, I think Dooyoo is a great site, but I will be thinking carefully about what I review in the future.
I hope you found my review useful and would thank you for reading.
Summary: A great site to express your opinion on the products and services you've used
