Advantages: Good basic idea, Huge potential, Useful

Disadvantages: Site hard to navigate, Too much is irrelevant, Some silly people.

I've been reading with great interest the debate on the new Dooyoo redesign. I'm a fairly new contributor, but I've been very irritated by all the bugs which have bitten me personally: problems logging on, impossibility of paragraphing or justifying the text, my apostrophes appearing as question marks. I do remember how it used to be.

But (new paragraph) I do wonder if the problems go deeper than this. As I understand it, the site was supposed to give personal opinions on various products that the writer has tried, so that the reader can judge if it's likely to be suitable to his/her needs. Things have gone far beyond this. While the opinions are still there, I frequently get the impression that some monstrous egos are stalking around, much more keen on impressing others than in the products. There are patronising idiots who don't have the qualifications to patronise. One sent me a message saying, "Well done," as if I were a schoolchild. I looked at her lengthy autobiography, pretty sure what I'd find. I found it. The woman is a pompous ass.

Having said that, there are some pleasant, intelligent people, and there must among the more thoughtful ones, surely, be those who feel as I do.

Why do some people believel that length of the opinion is a guide to its value ? They should learn a few lessons from Which? magazine, and learn to write succinctly. I've only read around four long rigmaroles. Most could be pruned by a third, with no information lost. But, although few people would try to build a house or neuter a cat without professional training, every idiot on two legs thinks he/she can write. It takes time, discipline and technical knowledge of how language works. You use the necessary number of words, and don't ramble on.

I cannot understand the lengthy autobiographies. Is anyone interested in them ? To me, they proclaim, "I really don't have much to do in life except sit here
blowing my own trumpet." And what a dismal cacophony it is. I've posted no details about myself, and I don't intend to. And I don't need to 'trust' people on this site, or make 'friends'. Some of us have those in real life.

I don't know if the site will improve from a technical point of view. I'm damn sure it won't while the Egos are trying to take charge.

If I get kicked off by popular vote I shall be disappointed, because I do like exchanging ideas on consumer goods and services; but I'll soon get over that.

Personally, I think there are some excellent writers on this site who are able to make their opinions interesting by adding a personal touch to them, something that makes them far more interesting and readable than anything I've ever seen in Which? magazine.

As for the community side of things, you either join in or you don't but I don't think you should knock something that you obviously have no experience of. Live and let live, eh?

Good lord this sounds like a bitchin sesh!!

I had to snigger though cos you were saying about someone patronising you, but you ended up sounding so pompous yourself!! Relax!!

Who cares about the length of ops, if you dont want to read something thats particularly long, dont! No one is forcing you to!

And I reacted the same way you did when a couple of people were less than polite about one of my first ops (no longer writing unfortuantely!) and I wrote a review like this, it was a bit meaner than 'well done' as well.
I got a personal e-mailed apology from both writers in question and lots of support from other people, including the delightful jillmurphy (soon to be known as the grand old lady of Dooyoo), and you are getting plenty of the same comments here.

My last words will be...get your head out your ass, loosen up, and do what you like, although I'm sure people would appreciate you looking at their opinions, rating and commenting on them rather than expecting it all to happen for you.
And yes I have had a bad day at work!!

I wonder why you would click on ops in the cat 'Childhood Memories' at all? You must know that you won't find anything product related there, so why make yourself unhappy and read the ranting? Other people, though, run away from product related ops, so there. Dooyoo can indeed be used this way or that way.
